With love and respect to the nature and the character of our island we made our rooms, "Zacharoula" or "Sugary rooms". Magganitis our village is an amazing place with breathtaking and safe beaches and nature. Every summer, from May until September, more than 100 traditional "fiestas" take place at Ikaria. Fiestas take place at openair places. Dancing folk dances, eating traditional food and drinking local wine, promise a great experience. Ikaria is named for Icarus, son of Daedalus, the legendary architect of King Minos’ Cretan labyrinth. When the two tried to escape from Minos’ prison on wings of wax, Icarus ignored his father’s warning, flew too close to the sun and crashed into the sea, creating Ikaria – a rocky reminder of the dangers of overweening ambition. Greek myth also honours Ikaria as the birthplace of Dionysos, god of wine and joy. Magganitis our village is also an amazing place with breathtaking beaches and nature. The thousands Menhirs of the area at this full green landscape with olive trees, figs, pinetrees and holm oaks, give the village its unique character. Coming from Evdilos port towards Magganitis, a tunel leads you to our village and by the time visitors see it realise it worthed to visit. Natural springs, trecking and walking paths, flowers , forests and wonderful beaches were used at the canvas of Magganitis. The crystal clear blue and green water of the beaches attract you and literally makes you forget about everything.The beaches of Magganitis,are among the safest and calmest of the island. With our Ikarian spirit can help you to explore most of the beauties of the island and be sure will do our best on it. Dancing folk dances, eating traditional food and drinking local wine, promise a great experience. Also from Magganitis you can take daily tours by boat to near by virgin beaches. You can depart early in the morning and return back at the afternoon. Our rooms, now, are five, individual rooms, totally harmonic at our village's spirit. Sunny and airy, with view to the sea, the mountain and the village, will make you feel like local. Our studio has a double bed and a beautiful wooden loft with one singe bed.There are also closets and fridge. Our studio has traditional furniture and keeps a calm and beautiful sense. You may also use our external traditional kitchen for your cooking. In the room there is an electric stovetop. Our rooms are fully equipped with bed-linen and towels. Relaxing at the balcony or the yard you can enjoy your coffee or wine with view towards the sea,the mountain or the village. Every three days cleaning lady, comes for cleaning. From our rooms, walking at a very beautiful path, beach of Magganitis is just 15 minutes. At our village you can find whatever you may want. Cafes and small traditional restaurants serve "mezes" and local food. Besides, Ikarian kitchen is well known international for the longevity that "offers" to the people of Ikaria. So feel free to enjoy local food and wine, fresh and delicious at the elegant places of the vilage. There is also mini market for your needs. Night time you can enjoy your drinks at the bar of the village just by the sea or at the traditional cafes. From the port or the airport there are taxis that can drive you to Magganitis. Also there are many car rentals where you can rent a car or a scooter to our place. Due to the change of the host we lost all of our reviews! Lisbeth Ιούλιος 2018 We had a nice stay in this fantastic greek villiage . The host Stella and Antonio is extreamly friendly. We came by taxi and and had lot of walks around in the area. Stella is the kindest host we have ever had, she really goes above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and make sure you have everything you need. The location is within walking distance of one of the nicest beaches we had ever been to. A quiet, peaceful little village perfect for relaxing. Our only regret was going a little too early in May as most of the taverns and the boat rides to nearby beaches don't begin until the end of May/ early June we were told but thanks to Stella we were able to make the best of our time there regardless! Alec Οκτώβριος 2017 I have never experienced such warmth as well as amazing hospitality as I did while staying at Zacharoula rooms in Manganitis. Manganitis is a wonderful small town located on the south east side of Ikaria. There are 3 places to swim, all within walking distance of Stella's place, the port, the town beach (my favorite), and Seychelles. My room had a wonderful deck which I made use of every day; watching the sunrise, enjoying breakfast, lunch, dinner, and having drinks. Any excuse to hang out on the deck! Stella offer a delicious Greek breakfast for just 7euro. I also benefited greatly from Stella's fantastic cooking, she made we a delicious birthday dinner, which included an amazing Moussaka (vegetarian). I stayed for almost 2.5 weeks and wished it had been longer. I have traveled many places so I know what a rare and special place this is after staying. Thank you again Stella! Το προφίλ του/της J. Magganitis is a wonderful small coastal town on the south east side of Ikaria. The communication with Thania was very helpful and fast, but the thing that makes staying here perfect is Stella. She is warm and welcoming, extremely generous and gracious. She made my birthday very special. I have been spoiled with fresh & dried figs, many pomegranates, peppers, and olives. Includes a refrigerator, hot plate, and fully stocked with plates, glasses and cookware. (There is a full, communal kitchen downstairs in the courtyard.) The room is beautifully appointed with pine built-ins, air-conditioning, and beautiful linens. The view from the room is breathtaking. Stella is an amazing host, with homemade cake, fruit, and always ready to help! The village of Magganitis is tiny and secluded (just what I wanted) but boasts a harbor, four restaurants and a market where the locals hang out. Two amazingly beautiful beaches are close by. Beautiful view over the ocean and the surrounding mountains. Stella is a genuine warm and friendly host. The garden is wonderful. Every room has her own personal touch. The village is beautiful and very friendly people. The surroundings were perfect for me. From the Rooms a walked up the mountains. I went for the shorter more easy walks this time. And the beach a little 15 min walk down is nice too. Met some really nice people during my stay. And loved the beautiful and quiet surroundings. There is an outside cooking place which i love. Can deffenetly recommend an easy and rich stay here. All perfectly orginanised, helpful and clean. Looking forward to come back next time. If you need to relax, this is a good place to do it. There is peace, good places to hike, near to the sea and good places to eat. The locals are really nice and helpful, and I will definitely come back here. This place gets my warmest recommendations. A quiet and relaxing, true Ikarian location, with trees, whitewashed walls overlooking the sea. We liked our two rooms and our outdoor kitchen. A perfect setting for our family. Stella was very welcoming and upon arrival we found a filled fridge and a homemade cake. Stella’s hospitality was amazing. She was always happy to give us some good advice for exploring the island and knows about the little festivals going on. No need to say that everything was clean and tidy. Sa maison est idéalement placée en haut du village, ce qui permet un point de vue magnifique sur la mer et la montagne environnante. La chambre confortable est décorée avec beaucoup de goût. On s'y est senti tout de suite chez nous avec le désir de rester le plus longtemps possible pour profiter de ce petit havre de paix dans une nature puissante et un village authentique.
