Cosy Cottage in Rowhedge

Cosy Cottage is a mid-terrace, 19th century fisherman’s cottage situated in the scenic riverside village of Rowhedge. The cottage comprises of a double bedroom, upstairs bathroom (with roll top bath and full height walk-in shower), living room with sofa bed, kitchen and small courtyard garden. There is no oven in the kitchen but there is a hob and a combination microwave (which can be used as a conventional oven and a grill as well as a microwave). A point to note for guests with mobility issues: the cottage has a steep and narrow staircase with no hand rail. Dawn and Simon, the owners, live at Ye Olde Albion pub; just 2 doors away. They are happy to be available to answer questions or sort out any problems. Rowhedge is a welcoming village beside the tidal River Colne. It has 2 pubs on the riverfront, a cafe and 2 grocery stores which cater for most needs. Rowhedge is approximately 3 miles south east of Colchester with its Roman Heritage, Norman castle, theatre, cinema and range of shops. It is about a 15 minute drive to Colchester. As a riverside village Rowhedge has lovely walks along the river and also through local woodland. The Essex Wildlife Trust reserve at Fingringhoe is nearby (1.5 miles) as well as reserves at Abberton Reservoir and Abbott’s Hall Farm. Other points of interest nearby include Colchester Zoo, Beth Chatto’s gardens and Mersea Island (all about 20 mins drive). Dedham Vale, Constable Country and the Stour Valley are also within easy access as is the ‘Essex Sunshine Coast’ of Clacton, Frinton and Walton. Parking for Cosy Cottage is on street parking. Availability on the road outside the cottage varies but surrounding streets offer alternative parking. There is a regular bus service (no. 66) between Rowhedge and Colchester and the nearest bus stops are 5-10 mins walk from the cottage. Colchester has a train station with frequent trains to London and Norwich (about an hour to either place) and Harwich, with its ferry port, is 20 miles away.
