Netherhall cottage is located in the heart of the stunning Hope Valley, where walks from the door step can be enjoyed in every direction. The surrounding area offers spectacular views which stretch from the popular village of Castleton all the way to Hathersage, where there is a seasonal outdoor swimming pool. Hope has a selection of cafes, pubs and shops and is perfectly placed for action packed activities such as caving and climbing. Towns and villages nearby such as Bakewell and Buxton. Netherhall cottage is located in the highly sought after Peak District village of Hope, in the heart of the stunning Hope Valley. Netherhall Cottage can be found surrounded by some of the best walking and outdoor activities including the famous stanedge edge for climbing. Dating back to the 1700’s the Cottage itself is named after an old Manor House that it was built on the site of, with some of the stonework forming part of the building. The Hope Valley stretches from Castleton all the way to Hathersage, home to an outdoor swimming pool. You can choose to soak up the atmosphere of other wonderful Peak District towns and villages nearby, such as Bakewell famous for its delicious Bakewell tart, hidden caves at Castleton or the pretty village of Edale, the start of the Pennine way. We are located on a roadside and you will experience some road noise, we do have double glazing to minimise noise levels for your comfort. Netherhall Cottage is an annexe attached to the main house, Smithy Cottage. Netherhall Cottage is self contained and has its own entrance with a keysafe so that you can check yourself in. You will be left to your own devices, unless you require any information or assistance with anything pertaining to yourselves or the property. Please do contact us if required. Please use the car park that is situated at the top of the cobbled drive way to the right hand side. The metal gate on entrance to the car park will be open during the day and closed during the night for added security. There is no lock on the gate so if you arrive back on the night please just open the gate to enter the car park, closing it when you are parked. There is a dedicated seating area for guests, the gate for which it is located is to the left of the car park. We also have a picnic bench located down by the pond and river where you can enjoy a relaxing break with a book or just sit a while and enjoy the sound of the water ebbing and flowing past. You can access the field through the big wooden gate and turn left to head down the field for the bench. Guests have access to an outdoor seating area where there is a bench plus a table and two chairs. We do have sheep and hens roaming on the field and they are always on the lookout for some food, you are welcome to feed them with food but the hens are not allowed advocado as it is quite poisonous for them but they pretty much enjoy everything else to eat and so do the sheep. We are the owners of Netherhall Cottage and we live immediately next door in Smithy cottage, we are available should you have any queries or problems that may arise during your stay and we will be very happy to help out or guide you should you need assistance. We have the famous shivering mountain on the door step (mam tor) which will reward you with one of the most dramatic viewpoints in the Peak District. There are many spectacular walks from the doorstep to be enjoyed in every direction including the start of the pennine way in Edale which is a 10 minute drive away or catch the local train from Hope village. We have several cafes, pubs and restaurants and a delightful deli selling lots of locally made produce including a renowned butchers selling home reared meat in the shop which are all within a 5 minute walk of Netherhall Cottage so you can leave the car in our car park and give yourself a rest from driving. We offer plenty of walking guides and books in the accommodation to facilitate walking from the doorstep in every direction and the train station is a five minute walk away where you can visit Edale for the start of the Pennine way and visit other delightful villages along the Hope Valley line and beyond to the lovely city of Sheffield where there is a huge regeneration program going on to make your visit more pleasurable and relaxing. There are many regular buses that run from the village centre of Hope with stops located throughout the valley on route to most market towns and cities. We have a picnic table for your use which is situated in the field down by the river and the pond where peace and tranquility can restore your zen. There is an abundance of wildlife, fauna and flora. Take time to listen to the birds and the soothing flow of the river as it ebbs and flows past and see if you can spot any trout or the kingfisher who is very shy but does put in the odd appearance now and again. Watch out for the Heron who is intent on eating the maturing tadpoles in the pond. We have exceptionally nosey sheep who may want to join you but they are looking for some titbits but most of all just take time to enjoy.
