Cozy room with calm aura
Quiet bedroom on 2nd floor. Beautiful touches, large closet, double bed. Stuffed chair for reading. Shared bath recently redone. Gorgeous Klimt woman gracefully reclining over the bed. Our home is fully COVID-compliant, and we are following the science and all of Airbnb's protocols. Masks, hand-sanitizer, and thermometer all at the entrance to the home. All household members are vaccinated and we expect all guests to be vaccinated. Guests are welcome to use the first floor kitchen, dining area, living room, and backyard. Laundry is in the basement. I am available after work if I am not on the road. There is often a communal meal or two during the week which you are welcome to join. The house is in the Spring Glen neighborhood in the town of Hamden, Connecticut. Within ½ mile (1 km) you can find almost anything you need. All next door to each other, to the right on Whitney, 2 blocks from the house: •Best Video Coffee Shop •Barber Shop •Adler Travel Agency Farther down on the right on Whitney is Ted’s Cleaners (dry cleaning and tailoring). And…to the left on Whitney, 1 km from the house… •Park Central Tavern (good food and nice bar; remember that the drinking age is 21 in CT) •Amici’s (not sure about the food; has a bar as well) •Nail salon •Posh hair salon •Liquor store •Ice cream store •Gas station •Walgreen’s drug store •Two banks •Spring Glen hardware store (great old fashioned hardware store) •Galasso’s watch repair and tailor There are several churches and synagogues within a mile (2 kms) of the house. If you are looking for a particular religious service, let me know. There are more denominations and spiritual practice centers in New Haven. The Farmington Canal Trail (a “greenway” with no cars) is .75 miles or 1.4 kms from the house. It goes for many miles in both directions; wonderful for walking, biking, rollerblading, and running. There are bikes and helmets in the garage. The bikes have not been ridden in a while and might need some servicing. Let me know if you intend to ride and I’ll see if I can get them working. There are several gyms in the area. Most require a short drive. There is an LA Fitness about 1.5 miles from the house. In the summer, on Tuesday afternoons, there is usually a farmer’s market at Spring Glen Church, two blocks from the house, across from Best Video. The CT Transit buses run up and down Whitney. You can check online for the schedule. (Website hidden by Airbnb) At least one of the buses goes right downtown to New Haven. You can buy a multi-fare card online or at various places in New Haven including Stop & Shop in Hamden (our frequently used grocery store). Just know that the buses do not run frequently; public transit in CT is not great, unlike Boston, New York, San Francisco, etc. New Haven is well “Uber-ed” and “Lyft-ed” so I recommend using those services. The Farmington Canal Trail (a “greenway” with no cars) is .75 miles or 1.4 kms from the house. It goes for many miles in both directions; wonderful for walking, biking, rollerblading, and running. There are bikes and helmets in the garage. If you are going to use the bikes extensively, we ask that you make a contribution toward their maintenance. If you are going into New York, I highly recommend that you take the train instead of driving. It’s about one hour and forty minutes to NYC on the train. Take MetroNorth, not Amtrak. Amtrak is very expensive as compared to MetroNorth. Both leave from the New Haven Union Station. You can purchase New York subway tickets in New Haven. If you are going to Boston, take Amtrak or drive. If you are going to Philadelphia or DC, take Amtrak or drive. If you are going to Vermont, western Massachusetts, New Hampshire, or Maine, drive. All household members are vaccinated and we expect all guests to be vaccinated.
