For one person seeking a month long (45% discount) refuge in Old Hawaii. This 2 1/2 room studio apartment is simple : entry room with small couch to read , a bed room, and a kitchenette - apartment frig, one burner propane stove. A private entrance opens to the back garden. Shared bathroom. This Japanese style studio is next to the Zendo. "Silence" is observed from 6:30 p.m. - 6:30 a.m. Time to read, work on line (Wifi -44 MBPS), create art, work in the gardens. A place to live simply. The Main-Monastery House is the closest experience to living in a Japanese Monastery, Hawaii style. "Silence" is observed from 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. A place to write, read, or just be quiet. Another room to sleep deeply. A quaint and modest kitchenette to prepare simple meals. The bathroom is shared with resident in Artist Retreat Studio. During this time, we encourage guests to come for a week, 2 weeks or longer (15% discount) or a month. There is a 45% discount on daily rate for month stay. Guests have access to Wifi. We live in a "retreat zone" so guests wander down a quaint country road to Hakalau Veterans Park for cell phone reception. Zazen, sitting meditation is practiced 5 times a week and guests are invited to join. Our "Temple of Gratitude" is open for guests to sit quietly in silence, contemplation and prayer. Akiko lives on the grounds and interacts with all her guests when ever they need assistance. During this time of Covid Consciousness, we honor social distancing and guests are requested to use masks, to protect our elders (our kupuna), our community and the residents who live here. Wailea is a quaint old plantation village of about 12 households. It is a very friendly and warm community where we know each other. Our families know each other. Every Tuesday, we have our community market and we gather to share, sell, and trade food; great food for our bodies and souls. We are located 15 miles from Hilo. A car is a convenience. There is our Hele On Bus service. Our facilities offer the best of "old Hawaii," - the natural simplicity and quiet charm. We are steeped in all that is natural - the wind chimes sing, the winds blow through the multitude of trees and plants and shrubs, the light changes - a little rain, a little wind, sometimes a lot, and we live in deep peace and gratitude.
