This beautiful Government farm property from 1855 with a beuatiful guest room on the 1st floor lies on open channel. It is a unique place with much character. It lies quietly and still on the edge of the village Hitzum. Here you can really enjoy and relax! The room lies in a beautiful Government farm property in the beautiful place Hitzum. From the garden you can enjoy the beautiful view over the meadows. For the guests we have available a bedroom with a 2 persons bed. In case desired it is possible to place a 1 persons bed in the room. (For instance for a 3rd person or when the parent(s) want to stay with a child at our place.) Guests have entrance to the barn (possibility to park a motor/scooter/bike). In the barn are the stairs to the beautiful kitchen and bathroom for the guests. For the guests there is a bedroom with a 2 persons bed available. It is allowed to use the garden. In the summer you are allowed to use the cosy outside stove. We have wood available. Do you want to come with your boat? We have a landing-stage for small boats, with a connection to open channel. As permanent occupants we are willing to explaine the objects of interest in the neighbourhood to our guests or to make them wise. When appreciated and possible for us we sometimes like to eat together (against shared costs). From Hitzum you can easily visit two of the Friese 11 cities, the beautiful city of Franeker and the coast city Harlingen. Both cities you can visit on a bike. But also the capital city of Friesland, Leeuwarden, you can reach by bus and train and with the car it will be 20 minutes. Every Friday there is a pleasant market. It is also very nice to visit The Fries Nature Museum. A great experience is the Eise Eisinga Museum, a unique planetarium in Franeker. Also the beach of Harlingen with a beautiful restaurant with a view to the Waddenzee. The bathplace Makkum has a nice beach and a cosy seafront with nice terraces. Naturally you can eat a delicious fish in Harlingen and Makkum. In our village Hitzum you can hire a boat and visit the tea garden from Nauta’s Botenverhuur. In the summer you can swim in our village in a lovely clean canal with a swim landing-stage. In the village Witmarsum there is a beautiful big outdoor swimming pool with slides. You can park in front of our farm. You can use 1 lady bike ( with a sitting place special for 1 child) & 1 men’s bike and 1 ov bike (to be used as a child bike). Also we have a bag on the bike for the purchases. NB. It are city bikes (no back-pedal, no gear and no handbrakes for short distances. Not suitable for making a long tour. Touring bikes can be rent in Franeker at "Van der Woude Fietsen". There is a bus stop on a 2 minutes walk from our farm. The bus takes you in 5 minutes to the train station in Franeker. From the station in Franeker you can take the train to Leeuwarden or Harlingen. When possible we can pick you up or bring you from/to for instance Franeker, Leeuwarden or Harlingen (harbour) for the price of 0,50 euro a kilometer. On our farm we have a cat and 2 dogs. (We can put them in their kennels when you do not like dogs), chickens and pony’s and horses. For beginners (with a weight under 70 kilo) it is possible to take a horse lesson or to make an outside ride through the village. For more experienced riders it is possible to make a ride through the neighbourhood. For children there are small pony’s to ride, brush and to walk with. Are you interested? Ask fort he possibilities!
