Welcome to Bear House, perfect for a weekend stay to explore Suffolk, and the nearby town of Colchester. You are most welcome stay in the self contained guest wing of our family country home. Although we do not provide a formal breakfast, there is a kettle, fridge, milk and cereals available for your use in the reception room. PLEASE NOTE, sorry but we do not accept weekend wedding guests. Bear House is a central feature of the beautiful village of Nayland, once very significant in the wool trade and considered as one of the very best villages in East Anglia. Originally a Tudor counting house you access the accommodation through your own separate entrance, and you will have the use of the upper floor of one end of the house. There are two bedrooms, a bright double bedroom, and a single bedroom with the flexibility of an additional pull out bed to sleep two people. A large bathroom with walk in shower, and your own private reception/breakfast room, where we will provide milk, bread, cereals, tea and coffee. We have plenty of secure off street parking, accessed through electric gates, and you have access to the property through a separate entrance and stairway to the property. We always try to be there to welcome you and show you around and answer any questions during your stay. We have two very friendly dogs, but they have no access to the upstairs areas. We also can provide a range of home cooked meals which we sell locally and can have these ready for you on arrival if you pre order. Please see the menu in the gallery. The village offers a post office, butchers and a riverside pub.Close by is the historic Roman town of Colchester, the oldest recorded town in Britain with a wider range of shopping and other facilities. Stoke-by-Nayland is a 5 minute car journey away, offering a further choice of pubs for great food. and a convenience store. The village of Nayland is located in the heart of the Stour Valley and the Dedham Vale, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty made famous by the paintings of the local artist John Constable Although we recommend you have a car, there is a bus route through Nayland which will take you towards Colchester or the smaller town of Sudbury. For rail journeys, Colchester train station is 10 - 15 minutes away and provides a regular train service to the heart of the city of London, a 45 minute journey and there are trains every 15 minutes. The towns of Sudbury, Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds and Chelmsford are all within comfortable driving distance. We make and sell meals locally. If you are arriving late or simply do not want to venture out for the evening, we have a range of fresh and frozen meals we can provide and heat up for you on arrival or during your stay. Se the menu in the gallery or ask for more details when you book.
