Built in 1701 out of local limestone and Grade II Listed, Lancaster Cottage oozes character and is the ideal retreat for a luxury romantic escape. It is possibly the best situated cottage in the whole of the Peak District - utterly peaceful yet an easy stroll to the village pubs and fantastic walking trails from the doorstep. Once you are here, there is no need to get in the car again until you leave. It is also perfectly situated for exploring more of the White and Dark Peak with some of the best walks and stately homes in the country only a short drive away. Bakewell is a lovely town to explore, with lots of interesting shops and cute cafes. There is enough here to keep you busy for years! Winster is listed in the Doomsday Book and is now a Conservation Area, with most of its beautiful and unique 17th/18th century buildings being listed, built during Winster's leadmining heyday. However, despite the peaceful nature of the village, it is a real place with lots of character and friendly locals – great for a wander around the little narrow streets before you go to the pub! Winster has a regular bus service (Hulleys 172) between Matlock and Bakewell which is useful for point to point walks as well as car-free visiting of the towns. Matlock is only 20 minutes by train from Derby, which is a great connection point for trains all around the country, including fast connections to London. There is parking in the village by the cottage and you can load/unload the car outside the cottage. There is additional parking at the top of the village and it is totally safe everywhere.
