*WE ARE CURRENTLY HOSTING ONLY REFUGEES* Hi. We have space for 10 people. We are in the countryside. Our facilities are lovely BUT we have an outside composting toilet & liquid only toilets inside. We have a nice bath & a separate shower room & normal plumbing except for the composting toilet. We are well set up for mums & kids. We have many farm animal pets, including our magic goat and an abundant supply of eggs from our truly free range chickens. If you are in Prague for more than a couple of days, then you may begin to wonder where the Czech People are. Tourists are corralled into the gorgeous foreigners’ ghetto which the route between the Old Town Square and Prague Castle has become. It is beautiful, nonetheless, 10 million people visit Prague every year, and your walk across Charles Bridge will likely be accompanied by a crowd of thousands. The Czech countryside is one of Bohemia’s best kept secrets – there are plenty of good guides available, however they are only written in Czech. Should you be in Prague on one of those sultry, sunny days, in ice cream melting temperatures, then you may wish to consider other options. How about a swim in a natural swimming pond? A meander through a forest carpeted by sorrel – with the chance to gather Chanterelle and Porchini mushrooms or the abundant blueberries. We're located in beautiful South Bohemia on the edge of the Czech Lake District and Highlands, 70 miles south of Prague and north of Cesky Krumlov. Breathtaking countryside surrounds the property, both forests and open fields. The country roads are lined with pear, apple and cherry trees, and there's an abundance of wild flowers such as chamomile, poppies and cornflowers. Visitors to the area often spend time picking mushrooms and wild fruit (bilberries, strawberries & raspberries all grow near the house). Other local wildlife include deer & wild boars. In the summer the garden is lively with birdsong, you can visit the bats in the attic and watch the firefly in the evening. In the winter there are wood fires, snow cover, blue skies and beautiful frosted trees. We are a British couple who have moved to Central Europe to make a more sustainable life for ourselves and explore a different culture at an interesting point in history. Our animals include a flock of Aruacana La Fleche hens, Ukrainian cats, a pet pig, merino sheep, a dairy goat, Jersey cow and an alpaca/llama. Accommodation is a private room with twin beds and a sofa. Our meal times are 8.30, 2.30 & 8pm. You are very welcome to cook with us, or you can use the kitchen separately any other time Local places of interest include the Jewish Memorial in Cernovice, Choustnik castle ruins & nature reserve, a quirky range of local museums (seafaring, weaving, farming, motorcycles, toys, chocolate and the world's largest mechanised Nativity scene all have their own), the Hussite fortress town Tábor, plentiful walks and cycle routes (on well marked trails), a narrow gauge railway, Cervena Lhota (a red château in a lake with an outdoor theatre) and countless outdoor swimming opportunities - including the beautiful quarry oasis at Kamenice nad Lipou. In the winter you can ice skate & cross country ski. There is a village with basic shops, pubs and restaurants 4km from the house, as well as a boutique chocolate cafe and a pizza restaurant. There is a direct bus from the village to Prague. There is a (n early) daily bus from outside the door to Ceske Budejovice - the main town of the region. We also have (antique) bikes you can borrow. The house is two miles from the site of the last Czech Hussite battle in 1435. The property is well situated for those wishing to visit the 7 World Heritage sites in the area - including Cesky Krumlov and Prague. There is an interesting circular walk between our house and the local village. There is a bus from the house twice a day on weekdays, with easy connections to Cesky Krumlov and Prague. There are regular train and bus connections from the small town 4km from the house. Let us know if you'd like to book a desk and laptop. We are looking for a house keeper, gardener & maintenance worker. We always need computer programmers. Kids are very welcome.
