One of the top 25 villa-hideaways of the world that have all the comforts of a hotel according to Conde Nast Traveller Magazine. Breathtaking views both to the village and to the sea. Painted high ceilings from great artists. Natural beauty. Archontiko Stathopoulou is one of the oldest and most remarkable Neoclassical Pelion mansions with a unique history. It was built in 1888 by local trader Ioannidis when he returned rich from Egypt to the village of Agios-Georgios, one of the largest villages of Pelion at that time. It is said that Ioannidis was so rich that he was carried over onto a throne to avoid walking. The mansion year after year collapsed and although ruined it was declared in 1986 from the Ministry of Culture as a “Work of Art”. A few years after, it was exceptionally restored by the new owner civil engineer K. Stathopoulos, preserving its unique 19th century character in every detail, and has turned into a high standards luxury boutique hotel. The position of the mansion is unique, enjoying breathtaking views both to the village and to the sea of Pagasitikos gulf. The characteristic ornaments of the mansion are the painted high ceilings, creations of great artists brought together by Ioannidis from Egypt as well as the famous local painter Kasdasis. You can choose between 6 double or triple rooms in the main building with painted high ceilings and 4 private traditional stone bungalows in the garden with panoramic view. Designed and restored in perfection, combining traditional architecture with modern facilities, our mansion features all the comfort you need. Cable tv, free wifi, anatomic double beds, branded natural products of personal care, modern bathrooms and much more. We serve homemade traditional Greek breakfast at our warm and cosy breakfast area next to the fireplace and for the rest of the day you can choose to relax and taste our local delicacies and drinks between our beautiful 1st floor Hermes lounge and the outdoor area where there is a peaceful big garden with a swimming pool and amazing view. Members of staff are on site 24/7 to assist. Agios-Georgios, build on a high and airy position with panoramic views to Pagasitikos gulf, is an amazing place, untouched from mass (URL HIDDEN) an altitude of 620m, this village is 21km from Volos. There is a lot of rich vegetation, numerous spring water taps and cobble-stoned paths in the area. We do not know precisely the historical starting point of the village because every historical document was destroyed by Turkish fire in 1823. During its evolution years it consisted of 1500 households that had developed intensive trade activity of oil produced by the rich olive trees, fruit, apples and peaches, along with cultural activity. Agios Georgios has retained the character of the Pelion architecture. As you walk along the traditional cobbled paths you will see some old mansions. Some of these are now open as guesthouses, such as Archontiko Stathopoulou. From Agios Georgios Nilias are the painters Giannis Poulakas and Chrysoula Zogia and the sculptor Nicolas (Nikolaos Pavlopoulos). In the main square you can enjoy traditional tastes with local wine or tsipouro at the tavernas and restaurants. The surrounding trees provide a cool and relaxing shade in the summer. The unprecedented natural richness that surrounds the village provides a unique opportunity for exploring the forest, walking and hiking. For lovers of alternative tourism its an ideal destination to indulge in horse riding, mountain biking and jeep safari. Pelion is a mountain at the southeastern part of Thessaly in central Greece, forming a hook-like peninsula between the Pagasetic Gulf and the Aegean Sea. It is considered one of the most beautiful mountains in Greece and is a popular tourist attraction throughout the year: hiking trails and stone paths give access to springs, coves and numerous beaches, sandy or pebbly, set among lusciously green slopes, combing small traditional villages, hidden in the thick forests, and fishing villages in marvelous beaches. According to the Greek Mythology, Pelion was the summer residence of Olympian Gods and the homeland of Centaurs. On the high peaks and the dense vegetation of Pelion, the Centaurs who were unique mythological creatures, found their shelter. The wisest and calmest among Centaurs was Chiron. He lived in a cave in Pelion and he worked as a teacher – educator He was healing wounds with mountain herbs and taught the first doctor of humans, Asclepius, the art of medicine. The students of his school were all leaders of the Achaeans in the Trojan wars as well as great heroes, and the most important of all was the famous Achilles. Also the voyage of Jason and the Argonauts to retrieve the Golden Fleece from the mythical land of Colchis was organized in Pelion. Jason was raised in Pelion and was a student of Chiron too. A beneficial element of Pelion is its superb drinking water. This priceless good, water, is worshiped in Agios-Georgios on small taps like temples some of them being real works of art. The recent years it is bottled and sold in Greece and abroad. Do not forget to get to the ravine within the estate early morning during spring and all day during the hot summer days to enjoy the concert of the nightingales. You may enjoy local dishes at taverns, restaurants and ouzeri in Agios-Georgios and near villages Pinakates (2km,5 min by car), Vizitsa (3km,10 min by car) and Milies (6km,15 min by car). Do not miss to taste the traditional drink of the area tsipouro, when drunk in small cups makes people feel lucky and happy. At Milies, it is worth visiting the old steam train station with a remarkable natural environment, running water, the folklore museum and the library of the Pammegisti church. In the summer, you can comfortably expect to swim at some of the most beautiful beaches you’ve ever seen, most of which have been awarded with a Blue Flag.
