Halcyon Cottage, self-catering hols
Set in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside in the village of Crich, this cosy 200 year old cottage, with its 2 up 2 down design, is an ideal base for walking, climbing, cycling, exploring and sightseeing, or simply getting away from it all. The cottage is around 200 years old and is adjacent to the owners’ own cottage. The cosy cottage, a 2 up 2 down designed for 1 or 2 persons has been modernised to a high standard and is centrally heated throughout. It is in a very quiet location but only 50 yards from the village market place with many local amenities including pubs serving food, a post office, and an artisan bakery, cafe and deli, called 'the loaf' which we used to own. It’s quirky in that the living room and kitchen are upstairs whilst the bedroom and recently modernised bathroom (new shower December 2019) are on the ground floor. This is to make the best of the view towards the nearby village of Fritchley. The living room is furnished with a sofa, a table and chairs, a TV/DVD, a Radio/CD player and has a feature fireplace. There is a selection of games, books, DVDs and tourist literature provided. The kitchen has a gas cooker and fridge with freezer compartment. A microwave is available on request which is put on the dining table due to the compact nature of the kitchen. There is a queen size double bed with storage drawers, wardrobe and chest of drawers. The bathroom has a self contained shower, sink and loo. Guests can share use of the private garden and patio which has its own brook running through it. Off road parking is available on the private driveway. As we live in the neighbouring cottage, across the drive, and work in the village, we are available throughout your stay to help with any questions about your stay or about the surrounding area. With easy access to the Derbyshire Dales and the Peak District it is the perfect base for a holiday. The village itself is home to the famous Crich Tramway Village and was used as the location for the TV series “Peak Practice”. There are regular buses from the centre of the village connecting Crich to the nearby towns of Matlock, Belper, Ripley and Alfreton. The nearest train station is at Whatstandwell, a one mile walk down the hill, with regular trains north to Matlock and south to Derby, Nottingham and connections nationwide. During your stay you can park your car on the drive in front of the cottage. We provide all linen, utensils, crockery and some essential supplies (you won’t need your salt and pepper!). There is also lockable storage for bikes and any other leisure items (climbing ropes etc.).
