Wailea is a quaint old plantation village of about 12 households. It is a very friendly and warm community where we know each other. Our families know each other. Every Tuesday, we have our community Hakalau Farmers Market and FoodShare, 3-5 pm. and we gather to share, sell, and trade food; great food for our bodies, food for our souls. We are located 15 miles from Hilo. A car is a convenience. There is our Hele On Bus service. Our facilities offer the best of "old Hawaii," - the natural simplicity and quiet charm. We are steeped in all that is natural - the wind chimes sing, the winds blow through the multitude of trees and plants and shrubs, the light changes - a little rain, a little wind, sometimes a lot, and we live in deep peace and gratitude. This is a place of retreat, a sanctuary a place of practice.
