5 on Roux - Bethulie - Wheelchair Friendly
5 on Roux is a classic example of a "Dorpshuis" from a bygone era. During the recent renovation we have made every effort to retain the character of the house with its original Oregon pine floors, thick walls and high ceilings, whilst adding modern convenience. 5 on Roux is decorated in harmony with the Karoo and has a uniquely South African country farm feel. 5 on Roux is the latest addition to the Bethulie Manor complex which now comprises three homes (Bethulie Manor & Wild Olive Cottage) in the grassy Karoo. 5 on Roux was converted twenty years ago to be wheelchair accessible. During the recent renovation the accessibility of the bathroom and kitchen has been improved. The kitchen features lowered working counter tops with wheelchair access to all the kitchen appliances and facilities. Great attention has been paid to make the home disabled friendly. The doorways in the passage, main bedroom and bathroom entrances have been widened. The main bedroom has a sliding barn door. The entrance to the bathroom is level and the bathroom has a wet shower floor. A wheelchair can easily roll into the shower area. 5 on Roux shares a sprawling garden with Bethulie Manor and Wild Olive Cottage. The three homes make up the Bethulie Manor country complex and are located on separate, yet joined properties. All homes have their own amenities and places to socialise and relax. During your stay at 5 on Roux you will have full access to this renovated country cottage. As this is a family home we ask that you respect our space whilst enjoying your stay. Every attempt will be made to ensure you are comfortable and relaxed at 5 on Roux. There is a daily staff compliment who maintain the home and grounds. Please note that this is not a Bed and Breakfast facility and the unit is not serviced or cleaned during your stay. We are, however, always happy to assist and are only a phone call away! . Bethulie is a small town situated in the southern Free State and is nestled between typical Free State "koppies” (small hills). It is a stone’s throw away from South Africa’s biggest dam, the iconic Gariep Dam. It has vast natural beauty, a rich history and a multitude of cultures and characters. Bethulie is a great example of a quirky rural town and it is well worth spending a day walking the streets and speaking to locals. Agriculture is the main activity in the area with much of the business in town supporting the farming community and associated industries. Bethulie is situated 190 km's from Bloemfontein and 90 km's from Colesburg, and is on the main route between Gauteng, the Western Cape and the Eastern Cape. It is easily accessible by road from the N1 and N6, Aliwal North and Springfontein. Bethulie is the perfect half-way mark between Gauteng and the Western Cape, as well as Port Elizabeth. For those wishing to fly in, there is a local private landing strip that can be arranged for take-off and landing.
