Step off the beaten track. Switch off, relax... simple and basic rural pleasures. La Charpenterie is our four-bedroom 18th century cottage in a hidden corner of Lower Normandy. A large garden in which you can while away the days with friends and family, day trips to Mont St Michel, D Day Beaches, English & French Channel Islands, Deauville, St Malo, Caen and lots more. 18th century from the outside, cosy gite on the inside with everything that you need to be comfortable. Plenty of space for up to eight to sleep and relax while intimate enough for smaller groups to enjoy. A huge garden equipped with tables, chairs, toys and games for outdoor fun. La Charpenterie is a small hamlet of homes. You enter directly from the lane. From Ste Mairie Outre L'Eau, as you come down the hill after a quarry you will see a house called La Bergerie to your right. Our driveway is immediately opposite on the left. Lift the metal clip, open the gates and you are in! You can access the whole property, the gardens and all areas of the house. I live and work in London and am just a phone call away if you ever have any questions. Our reliable and friendly neighbour Irène looks after changeovers and will make sure you can get in, that the hot water/heating and electricity is on for your arrival. The house is quietly remote, yet an easy drive from the major ports and towns. The local towns have all the shops and amenities that you need. You can find on arrival a list of the market days in the local area so that you can get all the fresh produce that you need. Explore Normandy and Brittany - sandy beaches, Mont St Michel, attractive harbour towns of Granville and Honfleur. Sailing, kayaking, golf, hiking, biking, bungeeing and climbing. The list continues... Sample local produce in the nearby villages, from artisanal cider presses, organic dairy farms and goats cheese as well as locally farmed snails. Cook or barbecue at home or experience cuisine at one of many excellent restaurants within easy reach. We strongly recommend having your own transport although all you need is a bike or a pair of walking boots to enjoy the surroundings. Drive from the UK or France or travelling via nearby Caen (or Rennes slightly further) by rail or plane, you can hire a car at the station or airports Getting to us is easy. From London, sail to Caen, St Malo or Cherbourg via Portsmouth or Poole and take a short drive. Direct flights from London to Caen and Rennes with Flybe. Around three and a half hours’ drive from Calais. Driving from Paris couldn't be easier and takes under three hours. Trains are quicker and take you to Caen via Saint Lazare or Vire from Montparnasse.
