Restored barn on our farm - with great views!

Sitting in the centre of 200 acres of cornfields on the edge of the National Forest The Carthovel is one of our converted barns at Upper Rectory Farm Cottages. It is quiet and peaceful (the farm drive is half a mile from the road!) yet only two miles from the M42, between Ashby-de-la-Zouch and Tamworth. It's in the Heart of England and is the ideal place for business or pleasure! The Carthovel is one the barns restored from the original farm buildings on our working farm, Upper Rectory, which dates back to 1780. It is the original “hovel” where the carts were backed into to keep them dry at the end of the working day before the horses were taken to the stable for the night! We’ve made it a little more comfortable since then! The Carthovel is a ground-floor cottage with no stairs or steps except a small step over the threshold. It has a kitchen/sitting room with range of units, electric cooker, fridge, microwave and small freezer. The bedroom leads off from the sitting area and has a double bed and ensuite shower room. It is in a small garden courtyard shared by another cottage, The Byre, and you can park right outside the door. From the kitchen table you can look out across the fields while you cook your breakfast and try to spot the hares and buzzards! The Carthovel is perfect for weekend breaks, business men looking for an alternative to an hotel, holidays in the countryside, visiting family, or in between moving house! It’s always worth contacting Jean if the dates you require aren’t available as we have several other cottages at Upper Rectory and might be able to offer you a different one! The ancient village of Appleby Magna is mentioned several times in the Domesday Book and has such places of interest as a medieval church and house, it’s characteristic sunken lanes, and The Sir John Moore School designed by Sir Christopher Wren and which is still the local village school! It’s also got 2 pubs, one of which dates back to 1789. The village is on the Leicestershire/Derbyshire/ Warwickshire borders, right in the middle of England and only 1 mile from the M42. It is only 7 miles from the historic towns of Ashby-de-la-Zouch and Tamworth, and within 40 minutes of the centres of Nottingham, Leicester, Derby and Birmingham. East Midlands Airport is 20 minutes away and Birmingham International Airport is 30 minutes away. We live on the next door farm and are available 24 hours a day by phone, email or text. Lots of places to visit locally e.g., Twycross Zoo, Calke Abbey, Drayton Manor, Conkers, National Arboretum, etc. A folder with everything you should need to know – including emergency medical centres – is in all our cottages. We provide a bedroom browser with over 60 places to go and things to do within a 30 minute drive – that’s if you don’t want to just sit, relax and soak up the country atmosphere! . Stratford upon Avon, Nottingham, The Peak District and The Cotswolds are all just an hour’s drive away.Lots of places to eat locally e.g. The Globe Inn at Snarestone, San Giovannis at Sheepy Magna, The Black Horse at Market Bosworth, The Horse and Jockey at Congerstone, etc. You'll need a car as they've stopped our buses! Being on the edge of the National Forest there are lots of walks throughout the forest areas and we have loads of information available . Everything is included in the price - all cleaning costs, electricity, linen and VAT. Just bring yourselves and food! We'll even present you with a pint of milk and home-made flapjack on your arrival! Unfortunately we do not take pets at Upper Rectory.
