Country Cottage, sleeps 3

Briar Cottage is a great location being close to both Matlock and Chesterfield. The cottage was originally a barn and nestles in the hill side overlooking beautiful countryside. The village of Alton is right on the edge of the Peak District, with a working cattle farm at its heart. We have a small dog, Bea and a cat called Tilly they are both very friendly and will give you a warm welcome. The cottage is full of charm and character providing an atmosphere of peace & tranquillity. You are welcome to join my daughter and I in our cosy bright cottage. This listing is for a single room on the first floor and a double room on the ground floor with a sofa and bi-fold doors which allow access to the garden in summer months and far reaching views of the surrounding countryside. Both rooms have the use of the family bathroom on the first floor and there is an additional cloakroom on the ground floor . Although the property is not suitable for babies & toddlers the 2 rooms are ideal for a couple and child younger than 12 years old, please contact me if you would like more details. The gardens here are beautiful and you could not ask for a more wonderful setting to relax and take some time out. Briar Cottage is located in the small hamlet of Alton about 6 miles from Chesterfield and Matlock. There are numerous pubs and restaurants close by and the Peak District is 10 minutes away by car. If you feel more energetic it is easy to walk from the cottage & explore the local countryside There is a kettle in the double room to make hot drinks, fresh coffee, tea and herbal teas are provided, milk is stored in the fridge in the kitchen just help yourself and take some into the room. I can make fridge space for any food you are traveling with. Breakfast is served in the kitchen or outside your room if you prefer - weather permitting. Due to the layout of the cottage the kitchen is not available for cooking or eating your own meals. The bathroom is shared only with my daughter when she is at home. I will be here to welcome you and make your stay as pleasant as possible. Breakfast is included in your stay vegetarian or vegan. I am very happy to accommodate food intolerance, please let me know in advance. As we are in a rural location this is a great place to relax and leave your busy life behind for a while. There are lots of lovely walks straight from the cottage. Our tiny hamlet does not support any local taverns, the nearest pubs & restaurants are about 5 minutes by car away or 30 minutes walk on a light summer evening. For good food, I would recommend 'Batemans Mill' 5 minutes away at Old Tupton, The Black Swan in Ashover which is the nearest village to Alton with 3 pubs, post office & shop. Chatsworth House, Haddon and Hardwick Hall are between 15 and 20 minutes away. There are great farmer's markets to visit in nearby villages along with Well Dressings and open garden weekends in the summer. There is a bus which goes to/from Chesterfield and Matlock, the stops are about 10 minutes away by car or a 40 minute walk. A car is the best option if you want to make the most of your stay. Taxis are available from Chesterfield, Clay Cross and Matlock . During the summer months the nearby farm turns out the cows to pasture along the road by the cottage, this may cause delays around 10 am and 7 pm and does tend to make a bit of a mess in the road !
