Quiet former maid's room at the top of a Victorian family house, now refurbished with en suite toilet and separate shower on private landing with its own privacy curtain. TV, hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities, microwave, wifi. £7.50 'full English' breakfast charge p/person/£5.00 continental breakfast. Ours is a family home where we have lived happily since 1979 and brought up our three girls, who have now flown the nest with families of their own. This period attic room is cosy, separate and private, self-contained but sharing our front door. Please note that the staircase up to the attic is fairly narrow, so not suitable for the elderly, infirm, or those with heavy luggage. The futon bed is fairly low, but with a thick 'memory foam' mattress-topper to make it more comfortable. Most guests report a good night's sleep. There is a zed-bed for additional accommodation (e.g. for a child) if needed, also a travel cot. There is free on-street parking, but we usually park on one side of the road only, to allow freer traffic circulation. Guests will have access to the dining room for breakfast: home made bread, choice of cereals, fruit and yoghourt. Also 'full English' on request: 2 eggs (done how you like) + bacon, mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, baked beans and Hash Browns (or equivalent) plus all the ingredients of a 'Continental' breakfast. Most of the spreads are home made. If guests need to use an iron (i.e. before a wedding), they are welcome to use mine - even the washing machine! I am also happy to keep your food in my fridge. We would like to advise and help guests as much as possible regarding places to eat in the town, where to go and what to do. Also internet access. Beccles is a historic market town on the river Waveney, approx. 10 miles from the sea and within easy reach of Norwich (20 miles) and Southwold (12 miles). The Norfolk Broads are about an hour away and the royal residence of Sandringham is an hour and a half's drive. RSPB reserve at Minsmere is 18 miles away, and Snape Malting Concert Hall 25 miles. The town's motto is 'Small Town, Big Heart' , offering all the usual amenities: a range of restaurants from pizza-parlours to fine dining. The 16th Century coaching inn at its centre is now a Wetherspoons. There is a Tesco, Lidl and a Morrisons as well as several small shops/boutiques. There is an 18th C theatre and an open-air Lido in the summer months. Beccles is on the Lowestoft - Liverpool Street railway line via Ipswich, which provides a regular, comfortable service. The National Express coach also stops in Beccles, en route from major airports. There is a regular bus service to Norwich (approx 30/45 mins depending on the route) and there are smaller, local buses from the central bus station. Parking is available, either on-street or in our driveway. Beccles is on National Cycle Routes 1 and 517 and on Regional Routes 30, 31, and 46. Cyclists are welcome to store their bikes in our lock-up garage overnight. Between us, we speak French, Spanish and German (as well as English) so would be very happy to host people who speak these languages. We have travelled widely and are comfortable with people of all nationalities and creeds.
