Abruzzo - the unspoilt region of Italy waiting to be discovered . It counts Madonna, Patti LuPone, Nancy Pelosi, Perry Como, Ariana Grande, Dean Martin & Alan Alda among its ancestry. If you want to get away from it all, this is the place for you. Our home, the area & people are rural, rustic & down to earth. There’s no TV or internet but books & games. Set within the national park of Calanchi, stunning views in each direction, we’re 30min drive from mountains and beach in either direction. This is our holiday home and in our absence it is all yours. The place is furnished with a mix of my Italian husband’s family heirlooms, including show posters from his mother’s stage career in the 60s, and beautiful furniture shipped over from my own family in the UK. The place is all yours during your stay. We have just one near neighbour who built and sold us our house. They are a very friendly, kind local Italian couple who, if desired, can sell you fresh fruit or veg grown on their land and prepare fresh meals for you too. We are based in London and so our neighbours, Elio and Franceschina, will be helping us with guests and keys etc. They love having temporary neighbours and whilst their English is very limited their daughters Jessica and Catia speak it a little better. The village of Cellino Attanasio is your closest port of call and the town of Atri, which is bigger and has more options to eat and shop, a little further off. We recommend Roseto or Pineto for beach days, both 30mins away. Great mountain walking is also available 40mins away on the Gran Sasso mountain range and Skiing in Winter is 1hr away at Prati di Tivo. Pescara and Ancona are the nearest airports and Rome is a 2hr drive through the breathtaking Gran Sasso tunnel. You have to have a car for this holiday. There is bike hire down at Roseto that previous guests have enjoyed the use of and recommend. Good beaches: Roseto, Pineto, Scerne Mall Shopping: Gran Sasso Supermarkets: we think Conad is the best Nearby cities: Teramo, Chieti, Pescara Nearby towns: Atri, Alba Adriatica. We are very remote. You’ll either love this idea or hate it, but once here the peace and tranquility is stunning and luxurious in its simplicity. The nearest village with a cafe, newsagent and bar is Cellino Attanasio, a mile away. The seaside is 30min drive and skiing 1hr in the other direction.
