Vicarage Cottage
The Grade II Vicarage Cottage is sited in the middle of the historic village of Great Tey. It was originally thought to be stables to the Great House, which was the name given to The Old Vicarage when it was built in the early part of the 19th century. The Cottage was originally converted to a house before the war and has been updated several times over the years. It was my late husband’s ‘Shed’ and that is why the sign is still on the Cottage door. The Cottage is ideal for self isolating, and was used as such during the pandemic by NHS staff and essential workers, but was thoroughly cleaned and disinfected afterwards, with at least a week between bookings. The Vicarage Cottage stands right beside my home, The Old Vicarage, but is completely self contained. It is cosy and full of character, perfect for a relaxing break. The spacious bedroom also has a double sofa bed. There is a living room, kitchen, bathroom and access to the large garden, which is available at all times, but in the summer watch out for ‘Herbert’ the robotic lawnmower. The living room has WiFi, Freeview TV with (Hidden by Airbnb) Chromecast, music equipment (radio + cd player) and books galore. There is plenty of parking for several cars as well as a very big garden which is a available at all times, except if I have family staying in my house (not very often), when we may all have to share - with social distancing. I am available at all times, if needed, but will leave you to your privacy. It is within walking distance of the local pub, The Chequers, and a few minutes driving distance from the highly recommended The Barn restaurant. The Chequers and the Barn do not cook meals at the beginning of the week, but the Swan Pub at Chapppel, the next Village, is open every day. Colchester, Britain oldest recorded town, is 6 miles away for anyone interested in history. Suffolk, famous for Constable Country is a little further. There are many designated footpath walks around the village for the ramblers. A real peace and quiet getaway. The Cottage is situated in the centre of the village of Great Tey and surrounded by open countryside, and yet it is only 6 miles from the historic town of Colchester and within easy reach of the A12. Marks Tey train station will take you to London, Liverpool Street Station in 50 minutes. London Stansted Airport is less than 40 minutes by car. Unfortunately the Cottage is not suitable for wheelchair access because of the age and style of the building. The internal doors would not be wide enough for a wheel chair, and the floors are not level (steps up and down between rooms).
