The historic market-town of Shaftesbury sits 750 feet above sea-level, looking down onto the Blackmore Vale. Ryecross Farm Cottage is just half a mile from Shaftesbury, surrounded by idyllic farmland. Built in stone, the cottage has recently been converted to offer accommodation for up to 4 people, all on one level. There is a shared garden that offers fantastic views across the Blackmore Vale and the potential for al fresco dining during the summer months. The owner also owns a private fishing lake which you can use through prior arrangement. This cottage offers a haven in which to get away from it all but, if you are seeking night-life or a restaurant, then Shaftesbury is within easy access. Amenities: Oil central heating. Electric cooker, microwave, fridge, TV, DVD player, radio, stereo/CD player and WIFI. All fuel and power inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Shared use of garden with private and secluded seating area with garden furniture and lovely views. Private fishing by arrangement. Ample off road parking. Sorry, no pets and no smoking. Shops and pubs 0.5 miles. Note: No children under 12 yrs. Note: Fishing is on a 0.5 acre lake and the carp are quite large. Fishing is charged at £12 per day, and guests must supply their own rods and tackle etc. Region: Explore the fossils and stunning beaches of Dorset's Jurassic Coast, visit historic Sherborne and Shaftesbury, or enjoy the footpaths, country lanes and thatched-roof pubs Dorset offers. Town: It was founded 1100 years ago by King Alfred who built a fortified settlement here ad went on to build the Abbey which draws tourists throughout the year. Gold Hill is one of the most famous locations in Shaftesbury and in one of the cottages that sits on its top, you'll find the Town Museum which holds samples of the buttons which once made Shaftesbury so famous. Lying on the border of Wiltshire, staying in Shaftesbury also puts you within easy reach of other attractions, such as Stonehenge, the Compton Abbas airfield and the beaches of Poole and Bournemouth. About 5 miles north-east of Shaftesbury are the remains of Wardour Castle, which has never been restored since it was besieged during the English Civil War. Half an hour away are the fossilised beaches of Lyme Regis and Charmouth.
