Finkle Green is a newly renovated single storey stone cottage, with panoramic views of the Pennine Lowlands and a short walk from Wortley Village. It has 4 ensuite bedrooms, offering a hearty Yorkshire breakfast and with many local attractions nearby. 10 minutes from M1 J35A, 20mins from Sheffield and walking distance of Wortley village, it has off road parking and dry storage for bikes and walking gear. Perfectly located for a cozy stay in prominent walking and cycling countryside! THE ROOM: Snowdrop is a spacious beautifully appointed family room consisting of both a double, and a single bed, and has an ensuite shower room. It has been decorated in shades of white and grey, with pictures by a local artist. It boasts a gorgeous garden view, and if you are lucky enough to be here when the snowdrops are in bloom you may spot these tiny flowers hanging their heads to give us a tiny glimpse of the new life which comes with the spring! THE COTTAGE: Finkle (elbow in the road) is situated in grounds on Finkle Street Lane in Wortley. It has recently been renovated throughout to an exceptionally high standard. All efforts were made to ensure the building was sustainable and it has ground source heating and photovolatic panels to generate its energy source, along with wood burning cooker and stove. All rooms are brand new and situated on one level with walk in showers with the exception of one room which has a shower bath. The rooms have tea and coffee facilities and hairdryers, iron and iron board available on request. THE LOCAL AREA AND THINGS TO DO: Please read on to the Location section where we highlight all the things to do locally and nearby. As part of your stay, you are welcome to sit in the garden and enjoy the panoramic views. Breakfast is served either in our beautiful breakfast room, or (weather permitting), in the garden. Either way with gorgeous views across the Pennines. We will be here to welcome you on your arrival and on hand throughout your stay, if you find you have forgotten anything please give us a shout and all efforts will be made to ensure you stay is as comfortable as possible. THE VILLAGE: Finkle Green is situated 5 minutes walk from Wortley a picturesque village with a vibrant active community, enhanced by the many visitors who come to visit the historic church - a church has stood on the site since 1216 and hall which was the family home of the Wharncliffe family who manage much of the property and land in the area. The family gave up the hall in 1950 and it was taken over by a number of workers movements who use it as a conference centre and retreat. The village is also very lucky to have a well stocked post office/convenience store with local goods on sale. It also boasts a lovely Farm Shop, Tea room and vintage shop and the local pub serves food lunchtimes and evenings to a very high standard. OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES: The area came second in the Ramblers - Best Walking Neighborhood Award 2018 and the cottage was on the route of the Tour de Yorkshire and Grand depart cycle races so lots of opportunities to ride and walk in beautiful countryside. Located within the northern reaches of the Peak District National Park, there are varied opportunities for outdoor activities including walking, cycling, climbing, equestrian and water sports. For guests’ convenience secure storage for bikes and outdoor wear is provided. CULTURAL ATTRACTIONS: There are a whole host of cultural attractions in close proximity, The Barbara Hepworth Gallery, Wakefield and nearby Yorkshire Sculpture Park with its outdoor art gallery set in 500 acres of countryside are both 30 minutes’ drive. the magnificent Wentworth Woodhouse and Wentworth Castle Gardens are a 15 minute drive. For the younger members of the family Cannon Hall Farm is 15 minutes along the lanes, Yorkshire Wildlife Park is 32 minutes away and the latest Gulliver’s Kingdom , just 25 minutes drive. OTHER ATTRACTIONS: Surprising for its rural location the city of Sheffield is only a 20 minutes drive, it is the home of Sheffield Wednesday FC (15 mins) and Sheffield United FC, the Institute of Sport, FLYDSA arena, Crucible Theatre (home of the World Snooker Championship), Botanical Gardens and Winter Gardens and Kelham Island, which was named the Travel Supermarket’s best Hip Hangout Neighbourhood 2017. If you are looking for retail therapy, both Meadowhall shopping centre and Fox Valley shopping centre (with a local market and individual and high streets shops and restaurants set in the beautiful Don Valley ) are 10 minutes drive. The market town of Penistone is 15 minutes to the west with its original cinema which also has live shows and events. DRIVING & PARKING: -Easy access to the M1 junctions 35a/36 (6 mins). -Leeds can be accessed from M1 Junction 36 (within 45 minutes) -Scenic routes to Manchester (within 1hr 15 - outside of rush hour) it is worth taking your time to ensure you can enjoy the beautiful moors which make up the route over the Woodhead pass. -Manchester Airport ( 90 minutes) -Off street parking is available to all guests. Please ensure you notify us if you are travelling by car so that we can ensure ample space for your vehicle. PUBLIC TRANSPORT: There are buses to both Barnsley and Sheffield where onward connections can be made to other destinations. For guests’ convenience secure storage for bikes and outdoor wear is provided. SMOKING: Please note the house is NO SMOKING but there is an area in the garden where smoking is permitted. WALKERS & CYCLISTS FACILITIES: Secure storage is provided for bicycles and drying boots and outdoor gear. BREAKFAST: Always made from fresh, local produce, guests enjoy fruit juice, fresh fruit, yoghurt, muesli, and cereals. Guests can then choose from porridge, vegetarian breakfast or full English breakfast. Vegetarians and vegans catered for. Please do let us know in advance if you have any specific dietry requirements. COVID-19 STATEMENT: Please be assured that here at Finkle Green B&B our levels of hygiene have always been our number one priority in the bedrooms, breakfast room, kitchen and during food preparation in our kitchen. Since the Coronavirus outbreak we have enhanced our sanitising protocols in line with government guidelines. We have also obtained the 'We're Good To Go' Covid-19 Industry Standard in partnership with The National Tourist Organisations of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
