The West Wing, Le Chateau - North Downs, Kent
The West Wing of this French styled Chateau is nestled at the top of the Kent Downs in Challock. Set in the idyllic Kentish countryside, but central to Kent’s many attractions, it is perfectly located for everything – Walking, Cycling, Towns & Cities, Vineyards, Beaches, Castles, Zoos, the Continent - or simply those who want to chill. The West Wing is a spacious self-contained annexe making up just under ⅓ of Le Chateau. Set back approximately 200 metres from the from the A251 behind electronic entry gates (operated by remote) this is a little haven of tranquillity. With ample parking space, guests have their own private entrance to the West Wing for their exclusive use. (and safety in these Covid times!) Save for the tiled Kitchen and Utility, the floors throughout the West Wing are solid oak. With well-proportioned rooms and 10 foot high ceilings in the Reception Rooms and Hallway the accommodation feels spacious and airy. For the colder months of the year an 'unlimited' supply of logs (from our own woodland) are provided to burn on the Wood Burning Stove in the Sitting Room - in fact we encourage its use as this feeds into the central heating system of the house. (But rest assured that for those who do not want to light the Stove, the West Wing is fully centrally heated!) The current and historical weather for Le Chateau can be found by searching for IASHFO18 on the Weather Underground website. Additionally if the weather is set fair we will leave windows open to air the property. We live in the main part of Le Chateau, and work on our plant nursery which is on adjoining land . This means we're available to sort any issues pretty much 24/7 - but similarly appreciate and value our guests' privacy! Challock is a rural village in the picturesque county of Kent. In the Spring the local woods (Kings Wood) are the most stunning picture with their bluebell carpets and are well know for their deer (watch out for them as they regularly cross the roads). We have lots of walks in the area and many people travel from surrounding areas to enjoy them. Our Church is also very pretty (in the old part of the village). The main bus to the village is the 666, you would need to check the timetable online but the buses do run daily (just not hourly), they run from Ashford to Faversham. The 667 also runs to Canterbury, but this service is less frequent. There is no train station in Challock, the closest ones are Wye, Charing or Ashford International. A car is recommended when you stay in Challock. Our entire premises (inside and out) are smoke free. Please respect this. Pets are very welcome, though we do ask that pets are restricted to the tiled areas of the West Wing and outside garden areas (the rear garden area of 'The Wing' is fenced). The owners of Le Chateau have their own pets – 5 cats and a mischievous young puppy. Whilst there are no CCTV cameras within the West Wing or the private garden area of the West Wing the entrance gates, driveways and front and rear gardens of Le Chateau are covered by 24 hour CCTV. The CCTV is not monitored but is stored for a period of 21 days should there be an ‘event’ that needs reviewing.
