Self-contained with its own entrance and parking bay, this is perfect for a country getaway. The village, at the foot of the South Downs, is ideal for walking and cycling and has an award-winning pub and lovely cafés. For more excitement, Brighton. Lewes and Glyndebourne are all around 20 minutes away and London less than an hour. Hassocks has direct trains to the capital and Brighton, and is a five-minute taxi ride. We have wi-fi and if you need stronger connection, can add the booster. The room is double aspect, light and airy and has an ensuite shower room. We have also provided a patio-style table and chairs if you need an area to study. The bedroom is in our black and white annexe, which has a private parking bay at the front. To get to your room, follow the hedge to the lych ages, and go through both little gates. Follow the red brick path to the left of our house, go through the iron gate and your accommodation is in the annexe to the left of the main house. (p.s when parking please leave enough space for our neighbour to access his front door!). The stairs up to your room has no rail or gate, so it's not suitable for people with difficulty climbing stairs, babies or children. We will be around should guests need us and if we're not within earshot, you are welcome to call us on our mobile. We want our guests to really enjoy their stay, so if there's anything amiss, please let us know at the time and we'll do our best to make amends! Ditchling is a small, friendly village with artistic connections (it was the home of calligrapher and sculptor Eric Gill). There are lots of events throughout the year from country fairs, Morris Dancing and the London to Brighton bike ride. The village nestles at the base of the South Downs, is handy for the coast, Brighton (with its unique Pavilion, shopping, pier and festival), National Trust gardens, and areas of cultural interest such as Glyndebourne and Charleston. Nearby villages and towns of note include Lewes, Alfriston and Arundel, all peppered with antique shops and boutiques (the latter also boasting an impressive castle and river). There are lots of great country pubs (two in the village itself, one of which won Best Pub of the Year by the Good Pub Guide 2016), a good local café and tea room, as well as award-winning vineyards and farms. These are great for stocking up on organic and home-grown produce to take home at the end of your stay. We're a five-minute drive from Hassocks station, which has direct trains to London (Victoria, St Pancras or London Bridge), and takes about an hour. Brighton is a mere 8 miles away but parking is pricey, so train (also from Hassocks), which goes right into the centre of the city, is a good option. Taxis are available and just need to be booked in advance. Because the water is on a different system from the house, there are simple hot water controls for the shower and sink in the annexe. The water will be hot, but just turn on the two red switches in the bedroom to activate the pump when you need it.
