A typical XVIII-century "chaumière" only a short drive away from trendy Deauville and the beaches of Normandy, our comfortable house is the ideal spot from which to enjoy the cultural and gastronomical delights of the region and the calm and tranquility of country living. You will love the warmth and charm of the house and the beauty of the landscape around it. It is ideal for families and has all you need for a great holiday. Our house is on 3 floors, in a large secluded garden away from traffic and noise, where deer and other wildlife often visit. On the ground floor there is a large kitchen with a professional oven and cooker, microwave and dishwasher, with a pantry at the back with a washer and drier and fridge-freezer, and plenty of wellies to use when it rains. On the other side of the entrance hall, there is a small toilet, and to the left a large lounge/dining room, with a fireplace, a tv and DVD player, a hifi and plenty of books, magazines and films to keep you entertained. On the first floor, there is a separate shower room, a toilet, a double bedroom with two single beds, and a large kids' room with 5 mattresses and a mezzanine with a sofa bed. The kids' room has its own ensuite bathroom and plenty of toys and space to play. It is loved by children of all ages who enjoy communal sleeping and much fun with friends whenever we are there. On the second floor there is a double bedroom and lots of storage space. The house is old yet warm and comfortable. There are traditional wooden beams throughout and modern fittings in all the bathrooms. Travelers can enjoy the whole house except for one bedroom where we store our things while people visit. They can enjoy the whole garden. We provide bikes, a tent for those who want to listen to the owls at night, and football gear for fun games. There is garden furniture for the summer, and some beach equipment to take along to the coast on hot days. The house is surrounded by walking paths crisscrossing the countryside (we leave a map of those walks in the house). Just walk outside and enjoy the views and the farm and wildlife. Although we will not be nearby when you visit, we have a cleaner and a handyman ready to assist you in case of a problem with any aspect of the house. We are always available via email, (Hidden by Airbnb) or the phone to answer any question or remark. Our neighbors are very friendly too, as are all the shop owners and craftsmen we recommend in our welcome booklet. We leave all sorts of documentation about the region and its cultural delights available to you on arrival, so you can plan your day trips easily. Le Bois Hellain is a small village in a farmland conservation area, so it is surrounded by fields and woods, but all amenities are only a short drive away, including supermarkets and town markets in Epaignes, Cormeilles, Beuzeville or Pont-Audemer. Cormeilles is charming and is known for its antique boutiques and its Calvados distillerie. Food is amazing there, with many restaurants for long or short meals, depending on your mood. The drive to trendy Deauville or charming Trouville is only 25 minutes. Both Rouen and Caen are worth a visit, which takes about 30 mins on the A13 in opposite directions. Paris is under 2 hours away, depending on the traffic. The whole coast is worth visiting, including the beaches of D-Day and the beautiful cliffs of Etretat. There are many castles, museums and places of interests to visit in a day, including festivals and special historical events in the summer. The tourism office in Cormeilles has all the information and organizes discovery walks, concerts and culinary events throughout the summer season. The area is very rural so you will need a car to get around. We provide bikes for short journeys to Epaignes for daily shopping, for instance, but a car is a must in the area. We are only 10kms away from the Beuzeville exit (number 28) on the A13 between Paris and Caen. The nearest train stations are Lisieux, Bernay and Pont l'Eveque, from Paris, Caen or Deauville (all about 30mn drive) Saint-Gatien airport in Deauville is 30 mins away and had connections with London from April to October. We love our house, and we know you'll love it too! Please be careful with fire as this is a thatched roof that requires extra care.
