Katrina's Stone House with Breathtaking View
Katrina’s Stone House is located on a small hill at Spili village and offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and the village. It has 2 bedrooms and can accommodate up to 6 people. The best advantage of Katrina’s Stone House is its outdoor space. On the half part of the spacious veranda you can enjoy your meals at the wooden dining table and relax by lying on the sun beds. On the other half of the veranda BBQ facilities are available as well as a big marble dining table. The position of the house is ideal for watching the sun while it is setting late in the afternoon and for star gazing during the night. Take the time to relax and feel the peace and the quietness Spili can offer you. The house comes with an open plan kitchen which is fully equipped with all the amenities our guests may need for a self catered vacation (oven, electric stove, dish washer, fridge with freezer, kettle, drip coffee maker, kettle, toaster, dishes and cutlery, cooking utensils). The living room is smartly decorated and has a sofa bed and a flat screen TV. Wi-Fi coverage is available throughout the house and it is free of charge. The two bedrooms of the house have both comfortable double beds. Between the two bedrooms you can find the bathroom that has a cabin shower. A hair dryer is also available in the bathroom. Although the house has no air-conditioning this is not necessary. The house has thick stone walls which make it very cool during the summer. Also due to Spili’s climate the temperature is always a bit lower than the rest of Crete. The guests have the entire property to their private use. Prior to your arrival I will send you an email with information on how to get to the house and my contact details. I will also like to know the time of your arrival, so I can be there to welcome you. During your stay I will be more than happy to help you any time you need me with the house details and give you all the information you may need about the area. Spili is one of the most picturesque villages of Crete. It is situated 28 km south-east of Rethymno town at an altitude of 430 meters. Close to the house you can find a medical center, a pharmacy, a bakery, many cafes and restaurants, supermarkets and shops. A small public parking is available just 30 meters from the property so you can easily upload your luggage. In the center of the village there is also a big public parking available. Things to do during your vacation at Spili. Walk around Spili and spend some time visiting the restored watermills by the river that runs through the village next to the central public parking. Visit the main square and admire the famous fountain “Kefalovrisi” which consists of a row of 25 lion heads. Water flows from the lion’s mouths at the steady temperature of 13 ° C all year around. Try walking the path over “Kefalovrisi” that leads to the church of the Holy Spirit. It is 2,5 km long and passes through the beautiful gorge of Spili. During the celebration of the Holy Spirit every summer a big fest takes place next to the church. If you like hiking you can try the E4 European trail which starts from Spili and ascends to the peak of the wild massif of Kedros. Kedros, despite being quite low (peak at 1776m), is one of the most tiring places to walk in Crete, due to the high inclination and being full of spiky rocks and steep cliffs. Signing of the trail with the typical E4 yellow-black marks is quite sufficient. The magnificent beaches of the southern coast are reachable within 20-30 minutes drive. You recommend you to visit Triopetra beach, Plakias, the famous Preveli Palm Beach, Shinaria, Souda beach, Gialopotama and Kerame beach. In the spring time it is very interesting to visit Gious Kampos Plateau. The red tulip of Crete, Tulipa doerfleri, grows exclusively there at an altitude ranging from 700-800m. Apart from Tulipa Doerfleri many rare endemic orchid species grow there too.
