We might be a little biased, but Harty is a truly special corner of the world. Only 60 minutes from London... But a whole world away! No street lamps, no daily hustle and bustle, just the lushest best of the ‘Garden of England’ - a genuine rural idyll! You’ll find the Mocketts Farm Cottages on the same road as the UK's largest wetland bird reserve and the many birds of prey and owls that swoop around daily are a simply majestic sight. Hares, pheasants and other game birds are no strangers to the landscape either, and with vast farming surrounds there’s wildlife aplenty at each and every turn. In this sweetest of sweet spots there’s many a glorious walk to be had. Our favourite is a lovely cross country journey of 1.15 hours to a nearby beach. The cycle route takes around 30 minutes, or it’s 15 minutes by car if you want the luxury of packing up a picnic or transporting little legs with ease. Even in this most secluded of spots civilisation is right on your doorstep. The nearby town of Faversham is a bucket list stop for beer lovers, with Shepherd Neame - the oldest brewery in England - open to the public and offering guided tours - and a cheeky sample or two! We’re also just 35 minutes from bustling Maidstone and local historic treasure Leeds Castle, often (and rightly!) described as “the most beautiful castle in the world”. Charming Canterbury with its fabulous shops, sites and theatre is 45 minutes away, while another Cathedral town, Rochester is around 30 minutes away. Overlooking the River Medway, its tumble-down castle and quaint streets are perfect for an afternoon amble. After a busy day of exploring, what could be better than returning to the comfort your own home-from-home via the nearby Ferry House Inn. This award winning country pub restaurant will serve you up a ‘Harty’ feast using whatever its star chefs have rustled up from the large kitchen garden. With beef from the family farm and a ‘local is best’ attitude to sourcing ingredients, you can taste Kent’s best, along with a tipple or two. The Isle of Sheppey is an Island, but we have good transport links via two car bridges and no tolls. We're just 60 minutes from London - an easy drive via the A249 off the M20 or M2, following the signs to Sheppey. The country road out to Harty (the Harty Ferry Road) is surrounded by farmland and you're guaranteed your first glimpse of the local wildlife on the way to us!
