The guesthouse is situated 10 minutes (by car) from Vaxholm. The town is often called ”the capital of the archipelago” which includes 30,000 islands, islets and skerries. Vaxholm received its rights as a town in 1647, but already about 100 years earlier it was important for the defence of Stockholm from attacks by sea. For over 400 years, Vaxholm was defined by the defence and local herring fishing. During the end of the 19th century, Vaxholm became a popular seaside resort. Summer guests from Stockholm made their mark by building big, beautiful wooden houses with porches and towers that became characteristic of Vaxholm and the surrounding archipelago. In Vaxholm you will find several restaurants (some with Vaxholm herring still on the menu), the fortress Vaxholms Kastell, cafés, and a harbour. The Vaxholm surroundings offer you plenty of activities, for instance public beaches, recreation areas, hiking tracks, golf, and rentals of canoes or kayaks. From Vaxholm you can go on breathtaking ferry trips into the archipelago, or to Stockholm (a one hour trip). It takes 35–40 minutes by car from the guesthouse to Stockholm, and 50 minutes to the airport Arlanda. The bus station is located one kilometer from the guesthouse; by bus it takes 50 minutes into Stockholm city and 15 minutes into Vaxholm. The local supermarket is next to the bus station.
