I take care myself during this time (Covid 19) and welcome guests who are similarly careful. My house is on the outskirts of the village and well placed for people who love the countryside. Cyclists and walkers just walk out the door. The house is a traditional cottage, with lovely views over the Hope Valley. Easy rail access to Sheffield and Manchester. A cat lives here with me. Firstly, please note that I have a cat in the house , but not in guests' rooms. The house is a cottage, with lovely views over the Hope Valley. There are two rooms available, if you want to book both then book one through this listing and for the other please refer to my other listing " A Hope Valley Home Welcomes You Too." Both rooms can have a double bed and one can have one or two singles. You also have use of the kitchen, dining and sitting rooms, plus garden and conservatory. There's one bathroom for the sole use of guests, sitting space open to visitors including a south-facing conservatory, and a lovely garden. You're welcome to help yourself to tea /coffee and to use the kitchen. There's a dish-washer and washing machine if needed. There's gas central heating and extra heating if required, and also log burning stoves. There's wi-fi and internet, the broadband should be 'unlimited' but isn't as good as advertised, suitable for everyday use but probably not working intensive working or downloading. There are two rooms available for renting, one with a double bed and the other with either a single, two singles or zipped together another double bed. This room is downstairs next to the bathroom. The upstairs double room has its own wash basin but is further from the bathroom, and has its own entrance. To book this room refer to my other listing A Hope Valley home welcomes you. My house is clean, comfortable and welcoming but I wouldn't describe it as immaculate and there are certainly no air-fresheners! For the most part I try to live without too much of a 'footprint'. After the summer a room is available for longer term renting- suitable for a professional person wanting a quiet place to go to work from, possibly on a Monday- Friday basis if requested. The 271/272 bus to Sheffield is two minutes from the house, running hourly into the evening, and taking about 40 minutes to reach the centre of Sheffield. The Sheffield/Manchester rail line and village centre is 15 minutes walk. The local pub is two minutes walk where you can get fairly priced meals. There are a choice of restaurants within a 10 mile radius, two Indian restaurants in the village and a big plus about our village is the outdoor swimming pool open from March to the end of October, one of few left in the country. A further mile beyond the village is a shop and cafe with fabulous views of birds feeding on the birdtables just outside the windows, a little closer is a family farm selling homemade ice-cream. The village (Hathersage) has small supermarkets, fruit and veg shop, supplies for walkers and climbers, a good deli and several pubs and tea-shops. Local societies put on plays and concerts. The Monsal Dale cycle track is is about 7 miles away. Climbers come to use the local edges for climbing and bouldering. There's a Norman Castle (Peveril in Castleton) and the famous Blue John mines/ caves. There are hundreds of well-marked walking routes throughout the Peak District. From March to the end of September the HEATED OPEN AIR POOL is open, with beautiful views as you swim. The whole of the Peak district is at your disposal, I can suggest local walks and information, and offer maps or even walk-leading on occasion if requested. Access by car is limited, you could drive your car down a small lane, otherwise leave it two minutes walk away, by agreement, in the pub's car park. During October and November the SHEFFIELD LITERARY FESTIVAL is on. Check out " Off the Shelf". The house is built on the site of a much older cottage listed in the fourteen hundreds. If you're six feet tall you'll need to mind your head going through some doorways. A note of caution- this is the country and paths may be bumpy and muddy, stones slippery when wet or when there are fallen leaves. Be prepared. Guests have use of all downstairs sitting, dining and kitchen space, including garden and conservatory. As much or as little as seems fit. I can advise about local amenities, suggest or lead local walks. I don't offer to cook so guests make their own arrangements or use the kitchen. The house has one shared bathroom so guests are not totally apart. I live at the property and will usually be there. It' a beautiful location in the Peak National Park, rich in local amenities- places to eat, get a coffee, shops, garage, events. There are wonderful and varied walks, on the high moors, over hills, in dales and woodland. It is very quiet and peaceful without being isolated. There is a local , hourly bus into Sheffield and a reasonable train service between Sheffield and Manchester stopping at the village station. In different seasons there are different natural events- snowdrops in February, bluebells in April/ May. Wonderful starling murmurations happen in November- February. As well as local productions of plays and concerts. The historic houses of Chatsworth and Haddon Hall are within easy reach by transport.
