The Mistle is a gorgeous, quaint cottage (sleeps 4) at the far end of a historic barn. Located in the friendly village of Brockholes near Holmfirth, accessible by train, it's perfect families and friends looking for a base for a short break. It's also a great base for working. Recently renovated, you'll find it attractive, cosy and well-equipped. The cottage sits across a cobbled courtyard from our house so we're here to help. Includes parking, fast wifi and great outdoor space. Dog friendly. The Mistle is located in the heart of the village of Brockholes near Holmfirth. It is 5 minute walk to the picture-perfect station of Brockholes on the spectacular Penistone Line (linking Huddersfield and Sheffield). It offers easy access to the gorgeous Pennine landscape as well as the Peak District. With two bedrooms and two bathrooms, in a semi-rural location, it is an ideal space for couples, small families or walkers, with plenty of extra space for storage for bikes or buggies if you need it. It would equally suit professionals needing to stay over in the area or wishing to use it as a quiet work base. The cottage has onsite parking, a patio and garden (please see guest access section) where you can sit out in front of the fire pit if the Yorkshire weather permits. Recently renovated, it retains lots of charm and character. It has a a small kitchen including dishwasher, fridge, microwave and washing machine. There is a cosy lounge – complete with piano and smart TV, two sofas and a dining table (seats 4). There is a downstairs shower room. French doors take you into the garden. Upstairs, there are two bedrooms. The front bedroom is light and airy with a characterful arched window and a king-size bed, as well as a hanging area for clothing. In the second bedroom, there are two single beds (restricted head height on one of the beds). The upstairs modern bathroom has a freestanding bath, toilet and basin. The Mistle has lovely outdoor space that guests and their pets have enjoyed. We want our guests to fully enjoy their stay and there a few things guests are are invited to consider in deciding whether the our property is suitable for them: - There is parking on the drive for two cars (one in front of the others). The owners' two cars are also usually parked on the drive. - The whole property (which includes our house) is enclosed with dry-stone wall making it reasonably secure for pets or children. We know know that full security is important for some guests and would like to point out that the garden directly in front of the owners' house is about 2m higher than the road and at this point the wall is relatively low. Please see the photographs towards the end of the photos. Our own dog, as well as many of our guests' dogs have enjoyed the space and run around freely. The area is also some way from the cottage itself. However, if you require a space which is is fully enclosed to a good height all around, the Mistle may not be suitable. - The Mistle is next to the village primary school, separated by a dry stone wall and mature planting which offers good screening. There can also be the noise of small children playing at break-time. After school time, during the weekend and school holidays the Mistle patio is very quiet and private. The road can be busy at drop-off and pick-up time. - The drive is open to the road to allow access for cars but can be shut by gates as needs be (see photo). If you have any questions, please do enquire before booking so we check that the space meets your needs. The cottage is self-contained with its own private space. It is part of a barn that sits in the grounds of the owners' family home. It has a private cobbled courtyard shared with the owners. We are normally onsite but are likely to be at work or school for some of the time. However, we are on-hand if needed. We generally like to welcome our guests personally, but have a keysafe so guests can arrive at their own convenience or if we are not available. We are always happy to give any advice needed. We will contact you a few days before arrival to agree check-in details. Brockholes sits in the Holme Valley, less than 10 mins drive to Holmfirth and Honley. There are many great walks from the cottage or further afield in the stunning local countryside. It is a popular cycling area - but be prepared for some climbs! Excellent public transport links including Brockholes train station (5 mins walk). Close to major motorway infrastructure - around 20 mins drive to Jn 29 M1. Holmfirth is a 5 min drive. There is excellent walking directly from the house as well as in the general area. We don't provide a BBQ but guests are welcome use a disposable BBQ in a safe manner. There is a freezer for guest use.
