Not far from Crakehall is the market town of Bedale, a traditional centre which has its own museum, weekly market and interesting churches, as well as a number of craft and antique shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs, which provide local beers and home cooked food. Also within driving distance are plenty other attractions, including the Constable Burton Hall Gardens with extensive parkland and woodland walks, the Forbidden Corner with its underground passages to explore, the lovely Georgian town of Richmond with its fine castle ruins and the Wensleydale railway line, a heritage railway.
