Studio apartment + full kitchen with separate entrance in a two-family house. Owners and host couple live downstairs. One host is a NYC tour guide, the other a boutique owner. Located in the diverse, safe, and lively neighborhood of Woodside near subways. Located halfway between Flushing Meadows/Citi Field and Manhattan. Perfect place to stay for events at Flushing Meadows such as the U.S. Open, or events at the Javits Center such as Comic Con. This is a fully legal vacation rental. NYC has banned short term rentals in apartment buildings and houses with more than two apartments. Because our house is a two-family house, it is not subject to the law and we can legally rent you our upstairs studio. UPDATE: Many of you may have heard about a change in the laws in NYC in October regarding Airbnb rentals. This change does not effect our apartment however. What the new law does is allow for fines to be levied against hosts who place ILLEGAL listings. But since our apartment is in a two-family house, we can still list it and LEGALLY rent it to you. The studio is on the upstairs floor in the rear of the house facing our back garden. The bathroom has a full tub/shower. The bathroom was completely gut-renovated in 2013. The kitchen features a gas stove and oven, refrigerator, and brand new cabinets. Coffee maker, toaster, and microwave are also provided. Bed is a Queen with tempuredic foam pad. Very soft and comfy! There is a flat screen TV with YoutubeTV and Netflix. The front room of the upper floor is our home office, but you will have a separate entrance to your apartment once inside the house. You will share the front door with us. Guests have access to their apartment through a separate interior entrance. We are happy to assist you with anything you need during your stay. I am a professional NYC tour guide and can help with any planning or info you would like during you stay. We live in a separate apartment however, so you are free to come and go without interacting with us. Our apartment is right in the heart of the borough of Queens. Lonely Planet just named Queens' its #1 U.S. travel destination for 2015 due to Queens' diversity, energy, art, and food. And our neighborhood of Woodside is one of the hidden gems of New York. It is a wonderful neighborhood of middle and working class New Yorkers from all kinds of backgrounds. The pride of the neighborhood is its diversity. Woodsiders come from dozens of nations and cultures including China, Mexico, Ecuador, Bangladesh, Colombia, The Phillipines, India, Tibet, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Korea, Ireland, Nepal, Peru, Thailand, and many more. Not to mention the many lifelong New Yorkers who call Woodside home. On any given day in Woodside you can hear Tibetans dancing and chanting in Doughboy Park, a religious procession for a Colombian saint, or traditional Irish music floating from the accented pubs. And with all that diversity, comes excellent restaurants. Woodside is the city's destinations for Thai food. There's also great Indian and Mexican restaurants, South American rotisserie chicken and street tacos for quick, cheap eats, and some of the best burgers in NYC. The neighborhood has all the important amenities; There's bagel shops, diners, butchers, grocers, Irish pubs, Italian and Hispanic bakeries, restaurants, pizzerias, and the neighborhood hub of St. Sebastian's Catholic Church. Crime is extremely rare and the neighborhood is very safe at all hours. Woodside is not for those looking for the new, hip, and trendy. This is old school, blue-collar NYC. A neighborhood of simple amenities, good neighbors, clean and safe streets, and salt-of-the-Earth New Yorkers from all over the world. Woodside is extremely well served by mass transit. There are two subway lines in the neighborhood: The 7 train at Roosevelt Ave/61st Street (6 minutes walk from the house) and the M and R trains at Broadway/Northern Blvd (9 minutes walk from the house). Most of the famous attractions of Midtown are only 20-30 minutes journey from our door. Downtown attractions are 45-50 minutes away. Trendy Brooklyn neighborhoods of Greenpoint and Williamsburg are 30-40 minutes away. All are accessible via subway. There is also the Q32 bus to Manhattan but traffic on the Queensboro Bridge makes this a good option only for those unable to take the subway. Long Island Rail Road service in the neighborhood is good for day trips east to the towns and beaches of Long Island. We have no off-street parking but there is plenty of street parking on our block. All three major airports are accessible via mass transit. Travel from Newark Airport is 1 hour and 15 minutes (door-to-door). Travel from JFK is 40 minutes. Travel from LaGuardia is 20 minutes. We suggest flying into JFK or LaGuardia if possible. Woodside is a very quiet neighborhood, and our block is extremely quiet with almost no traffic noise. The noisiest thing is the birds! We are, however, in one the approach patterns for planes landing at LaGuardia airport. New York's prevailing western breezes keep the planes on a different approach pattern most of the time, but if the winds shift from the northeast, they will fly over the house at about 500 feet. This only happens a few days every month and LGA mostly lands smaller regional planes (not big 747s). We don't find them disruptive, especially with the windows closed, and have slept peacefully with them for 9 years. You will be provided earplugs just in case. Please consider this if you are a very light sleeper.
