Layer Marney Tower, the tallest Tudor Gatehouse in England, the largest Norman Keep in Europe, 82 miles of The Essex Way or 350 miles known as The Discovery Coast all wait to be explored. Further afield are Bury St Edmunds with its cathedral, Ipswich’s regenerated marina, Norwich, Aldeburgh, Walberswick, Southwold and Sutton Hoo, Lavenham and Kersey. All worth a day trip to visit. For families Colchester Zoo is only 10 minutes away as are the remains of archeological park, one of the most significant Iron Age and Roman sites in the country. Mersea with his infamous crabbing just 30 minutes and the steam railway museum in Chappel just a short drive away.
