The Barn at the Orchards, Sherwood Forest in Robin Hood country Luxurious holiday accommodation in a conservation village set in beautiful open countryside and woodland with lots to do on your doorstep Fully equipped, large Barn for self catering weekends or family holidays in the country with lots of walking, cycling, country pubs and places of interest WIFI, log burning stove, outdoor dining area, private hot tub & off street parking for two cars The Barn sleeps 4, plus 1 more on a sofa bed The Barn is an annexe to our main home -the Orchards, but has its own private front door entrance and off street parking for two cars. The Orchards and Barn is at the top of the hill in the village of old Blidworth. The Barn looks over its own private courtyard and seating area. There are beautiful uninterrupted countryside views at the back of the main house to start your walks from. The house and Barn sits in 16 acres of private grazing land where we keep our horses Florence, Bea and our new foal Matilda. The Barn has a large comfortable lounge, large kitchen, one bathroom, one downstairs toilet, two bedrooms and a cosy beamed snug with a sofa bed for an adult or two small children Bring your walking boots - there are some lovely woodland trails and historic walks to explore right on your doorstep, here in Robin Hood country. We are between the Bird in Hand and Black Bull pubs on Main street and the Fox and hounds pub and kitchen is only 10 minutes walk down the hill through our fields. The Orchards and the Barn sits in 16 acres of land we own where we graze our horses. You can walk through our fields to Blidworth Bottoms woods where there is lots of walking, cycling and horse riding trails to explore...plus one of our village pubs - the Fox and Hounds where you can have a drink and a bite to eat. The village boast lots of connections to Robin Hood - Maid Marion's cottage, Friar Tucks well and Will Scarlets grave is said to be in the village area. Fountaindale, where Friar Tuck carried Robin Hood over a stream on his back is only a short walk away from the Barn...The Major Oak tree and Robin Hood visitors centre and Nottingham Castle are only a short drive away. *Places to Visit Sherwood Pines - walking trails and cycle trails, Go Ape, bike hire - 10 minutes drive or cycle there off road in 30 minutes Newstead Abbey Park - home to Lord Byron set in acres of gardens and ornamental lakes - 5 minute drive Clumber Park – large National trust park - 15 minute drive Nottingham Castle – Robin Hood visitors centre - 30 minute drive White Post Farm – large petting zoo and farm park – perfect for kids of all ages - 5 minute drive Horse riding -hacking and pony trekking in Sherwood forest - Kirkfields Equestrian centre - 2 minutes drive Wheelgate Park - childrens adventure theme park - 5 minute drive Shopping in Nottingham city centre – 30 minute drive Historic Georgian market town Southwell has lots of boutique stores and cathedral - 15 minutes drive Sherwood Forest visitors centre Major oak tree - 12 minute drive Rufford Abbey park – 8 minute drive Chatsworth House and the Peak district national park - 30 minute drive *Dining out The Black Bull - the fantastic and award winning pub and restaurant is only one minute walk from the Barn. Voted one of the top 100 pub/restaurants the UK. Perfect for superb breakfasts, lunch and dinner. Their Forge takeaway service provides delicious wood fired pizzas, fish and chips and burgers. The Fox and Hounds pub is a 10 minute walk down the hill into Blidworth Bottoms, serving family friendly and tasty food all day. Santini Italian restaurant does great pasta and pizzas and is 5 mins away The Lakeside Restaurant and Bar offers all day high quality dining, cocktails and food on the terrace in beautiful gardens - 5 mins drive away -booking essential Tom Browns brasserie on the river Trent.. fantastic dining- one of our favourites. 15 mins drive away. We also have an arrangement with a French professional private chef who can come to the Barn and cook you a fabulous meal to remember. Perfect for a special occasion...Please ask for details The village also has a fish and chip shop, Chinese takeaway Tesco Metro, Co-op, petrol station, post office, butchers and pharmacy. We also have a good Indian restaurant five minutes away Nottingham has a large range of fantastic restaurants including two with Michelin stars – Sat Bains and Alchemila. Other favourites include Bar Iberico, Coco Tang, Kushi Ya, Mesa and The Hockley Arts club As the Barn overlooks open countryside there are lots of forest walks and mountain bike rides you can directly access through our fields straight into Sherwood Forest You can walk to the spot close by where legend has it, Friar Tuck carried Robin Hood across the stream on his back. We are situated 15 mins for Junction 21 of the M1 and 20 mins drive from the A1 BIKE HIRE As there are lots of great cycle and mountain biking trails to explore close by, we've partnered with local company British Bike Hire to offer a bike hire service for your stay. Please ask for details PRIVATE CHEF If you would like a private chef to cook for you at the Barn, we highly recommend Erik Barre, a classically trained professional French chef who lives in Nottingham.
