Cosy, traditional cottage located in a beautiful rural setting in the Scottish Highlands just off the scenic North Coast 500. Accommodating up to 5 people, Croft 228 combines comfort with modern décor & facilities, and is an ideal base to explore the local area and enjoy the outdoors. The cottage, which was fully refurbished in 2013, has 3 beautifully decorated bedrooms (2 with double beds and a snug back bedroom with a single bed), and can accommodate up to 5 people. Downstairs, the charming sitting room has 2 sofas, a large TV with Freeview and a DVD player. We also offer a selection of games, films and books to keep you occupied during your stay, and also guidebooks and maps to help you find your way around. The modern eat- in kitchen/ dining room offers everything you will need for your self-catered stay, including: -Fridge/ freezer -Washing machine -Crockery, glasses, cutlery -Pots and pans -Electric hob and oven -Toaster and kettle -Microwave The cottage has a shower but no bath. We provide a cot and high chair for children. Our prices include: -Fresh bedlinen and bath towels -Heating, hot water, & electricity. The back garden offers glorious views of the Ben Loyal and Ben Hope mountains, Castle Varrich and the beautiful surrounding countryside. Guests can relax on the garden bench and enjoy the superb scenery and tranquillity. We have outdoor storage for bikes and other equipment, and access to a tumble dryer in the host’s house next door by request (fee of £5). Mobile phone coverage is patchy in and around the cottage but you can get some coverage on most networks. There is no wifi installed in the cottage, however you can pick up a wifi signal from the host's house next door in certain rooms, which you are welcome to use. We want you to be delighted with your stay at Croft 228, so please feel free to get in touch via email with any questions you might have before your arrival. Once we've confirmed your reservation, we will email you with useful information, driving directions, and our recommendations to get the most out of your stay here in the North West Highlands. Once you’ve arrived, we’re more than happy to share local information and history, and tips for how to spend your time here. We live just next door so are able to provide you with as much help as you would like. Alternatively, we’ll be happy to leave you in peace if you’d like to relax and enjoy the local area at your own pace. You will of course have your own keys to the cottage and so can come and go entirely as you please. Croft 228 sits near the foot of Ben Loyal, ‘the Queen of Scottish Mountains’. The cottage is just a few minutes stroll from the village centre, which includes 2 hotels and public bars (serving food), a bank, craft shops, 2 convenience stores and a petrol station. Tesco offers grocery delivery to the village so you also have the option of having your shopping delivered to you at your convenience. THE LOCAL AREA- WHAT TO SEE & DO Tongue is a vibrant crofting community with lots to see and do. Some of the many fantastic activities on our doorstop include: -Horse riding -Salmon fishing -North West Highlands Geopark -Hill walking (2 mountains in the nearby vicinity, including Ben Hope-mainland Scotland’s most northerly Munro) -Bird watching -Pristine beaches -Cycle routes & coastal paths -Stalking -National cycle network -Geocaching -Award winning hotels - North Coast 500 driving route. Slightly further afield… -Golf courses -Caves -Zipline over beach -Local history museums -Swimming pool, jacuzzi and gym -Boat trips -Whisky distilleries The local area is famous for its exceptional natural beauty and is one of the Scottish Natural Heritage’s ‘National Scenic Areas’, with outstanding scenery and some of the finest landscape in Scotland. There are a number of fantastic hotels in the area and we’ll happily supply you details upon booking or inquiry. To fully enjoy this fantastic area and make the most of your stay, having your own car is the best option. That said, there are public transport options available. Transport for Tongue (T4T) provide regular bus services to Durness, Lairg and Inverness. You can find more info on their website- just (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) 'Transport for Tongue'. The nearest airport is located just outside Inverness (which is 85 miles south of Tongue), and Inverness is also well connected by rail. You can also hire a car at Inverness, Thurso or Wick. We can be flexible on check in/ check out times, please let us know your requirements and we’ll try to accommodate. We welcome guests of all ages, and the local area offers an abundance of outdoor activities to keep your wee ones happy and entertained. Please do note that the cottage is situated on the main road that runs through the village, however the road is not busy and the speed limit is 30 mph.
