Beautiful B&B in rural East Sussex

Room For Two is a stable block which has been converted into a luxurious open plan living and bedroom space with en-suite bathroom. Separated by the garden from the main house, you will have complete privacy on both of your private terraces. The B&B has been designed with comfort and relaxation in mind. The large spacious open plan room is beautifully decorated, with a king size double bed (these can be separated to make twin beds), comfortable chairs and a round table. The contemporary marble bathroom has a bath, shower and heated towel rail. Slippers are provided, along with a hairdryer, and a selection of soaps and toiletries. Wi-fi internet is available and TV with Freeview and BBC iplayer. There is also a dedicated USB socket for charging laptops, phones, cameras etc. On the sideboard in the living space there is a kettle and toaster and a Nespresso coffee maker. The contents of the well stocked fridge (see below), tea and Coffee pods are provided for breakfast. For the cooked breakfast, we use local fresh eggs, and other locally sourced ingredients. We request that this is ordered the night before. Fridge stocked with: Milk Yoghurt Butter Preserves Not refrigerated: Fresh bread Cereals Muesli Fresh seasonal fruit The stable is situated at the end of the drive, across a gravel courtyard, where you can sit out for breakfast enjoying the morning sunshine and lovely views. From the room step out through the patio doors onto the terrace, which gets the evening sunshine. Guests are welcome to walk in the wild flower garden and out into the fields. The stable is just across the garden from the main house, where we are always available if needed. The house is one of a pair of cottages in the Iwood hamlet, a mile from Rushlake Green. The cottages were built for staff of the 18th century iron masters house, granary and barn, which is the core of the hamlet. Although the barn, granary and cart lodge are now all converted to homes, it is still a snapshot of rural life in the 18th century. The area is criss-crossed with footpaths, and there are lovely walks across the fields and through the woods to Rushlake Green, Cowbeech and Bodle Street. In the streams you will see the rust from the ironstone, which was used for making canons back in the 17th and 18th centuries . Locally you can visit Herstmonceux Castle, and Mickleham Priory. There is the annual Air show at Eastbourne ( 14 miles away), also the pier and beaches. Only 25 minutes away, we're an ideal bed and breakfast venue for the Glyndebourne Festival , for which we can arrange hampers and taxis. Also within in easy reach are Sissinghurst Castle and garden, Bodiam Castle, Battle Abbey, Great Dixter, and Batemans at Burwash . Further afield are Lewes, Brighton, Rye and Tenterden. In the room there is a folder with details of places to eat and visit locally. There are sample menus from some of the local eateries and we are happy to give some guidance, as we have tried most of them. Unfortunately there is no public transport and, Rushlake Green, the nearest village with a shop and pub, is 35 minutes walk away, so your own transport is essential. If you are coming by car, there is private parking down by the stable at the end of the driveway. Gatwick Airport is an hour away by car, or there are regular trains to Polegate (15 minutes away), where there is a taxi rank. We can help arrange transport. If you're coming from London by train, there are two options: 1. Take a train to Stonegate station if you're coming from London Cannon Street, Charing Cross, Waterloo East and London Bridge. It's about an hour and 15 minutes on the train and you would need to pre-order a taxi as there is no taxi rank at the station on arrival. Stonegate to Room For Two is about 20 minutes by car. 2. If you're coming from London Victoria or Clapham Junction, you're better to get the train to Polegate, which is also about an hour and 15 minutes by train. There is a taxi rank at Polegate station.
