Bear Valley Homes Bear Valley is a small mountain village nestled in the Central Sierra Nevada Mountains and is part of The Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway on the Highway 4 corridor. It begins down in Angels Camp and Murphys with 30+ wine tasting rooms, boutique shops, delightful restaurants and many community events. As you make your way further up the hill, Arnold offers the final chance for a grocery store, banking or last minute supplies before passing the Big Trees State Park, home of the Giant Sequoias, and heading into the high country. It is an area of natural beauty and a significant national destination recognized for its natural allure and history. It is a mecca for year round outdoor activities for all ages. Awe inspiring backdrops and fabulous terrain of the Stanislaus National Forest are what draw in the skiers, campers, bikers, snowmobiling enthusiasts, disc golfers, boaters, photographers, hikers and everyone in between. Surrounded by wilderness, granite peaks, alpine lakes and forest lands, it is considered by many to be a national treasure. There are tons of family friendly activities close at hand. Breathtaking sunsets, secluded swimming holes surrounded by wildflowers, stargazing and a snowy winter wonderland are what keep people coming back! The village is situated at 7200 feet in elevation with our own Cross Country Ski area and Snowmobile Shop for rentals to explore the amazing terrain this place offers, both located right in town. We also have the closest lodging to the Skyline Bear Valley Mountain Resort, the downhill ski resort, just three miles up the highway. Summer is fabulous here too with rivers, lakes, and hiking trails all very close by. The village offers several dining options. A deli where sandwiches are made to order at the General Store, casual bar food in the Grizzly Diner, delicious pizza at Sky High Pizza and Pub, freshly smoked in-house meats at Smokin' Barrel Cafe and for a more elevated finer fare experience, Creekside Dining Room. Hours of operation vary so we suggest always checking the Bear Valley Mountain a Skyline Resort website for updates. There is a gas station and two small general stores for basic supplies and firewood. **Please Note: We are known to receive heavy snow in winter with an average snowfall of 30 feet per season. Our highways are typically very well maintained, but guests must always carry chains complying to California law, even if your vehicle is equipped with AWD/4WD. During winter, the roads to the Bear Valley Subdivision (where all of the Bear Valley homes are located) are CLOSED to vehicular traffic. The roads are then snow groomed until we plow them in the spring. This means you cannot drive and park at the home you have rented, once we get enough snow and roads officially close for the season. Bear Valley Vacation Rentals includes, with your rental, one free pre-scheduled roundtrip snowmobile transport into the home with your entire party and all your stuff at the beginning of your stay and at the end of your stay. These trips need to be pre-arranged and only one trip per rental, which means everyone in your party needs to be here for the transport. Take in times start at 4:00 p.m. and go until 9:00 p.m. and there is only one trip per hour. It is first come, first served. Choose a time when you know that everyone in your party will be in Bear Valley. Extra trips can be arranged if we have time, for a cost of $60. Please note that we are not a taxi or shuttle service. Take out times can be arranged after you have checked in, but again if you want a certain time, it is best to schedule your pickup time as soon as you can. Take out times start at 8:00 a.m. Once you are in the house, you are either walking, skiing, have your own snowmobiles or snowmobile rentals from Bear Valley Snowmobile. If you are walking and have young children with you, we suggest you buy a cheap toboggan with a rope on it to pull the kids. The kids love it and it is easier than carrying them. Please check to make sure you are booking a unit suitable for your personal mode of transportation.** Please read all of the material on this page. We understand that it is a lot to take in at once, however, it does contain very important information that you need to know in order for everything to go smoothly so that you and your group have the best time possible during your trip to Bear Valley.
