Lovely little house in rural France

You can find us in the northeastern part of France, in the area named after the river Meuse, close to the border of Belgium and Luxembourg. The nearest big town is Verdun. Our little house is comfortable for 1 to 5 guests (or a family with small children, child bed and special child chair for 1-3 years available). (Address: Grande rue opposite no 6) Almost opposite to our own house we rebuilt a little farmworkers house (one small room and kitchen, a stable for a cow and a hayloft!) into a picturesque guesthouse(Grande rue opposite no 6). On the ground floor we have made one room. We built an open kitchen from the wood of a nearby walnut tree. We decorated the (fully functional and furnished) kitchen wall with a cheerful mosaic. The house is heated by a big stove, which is fed with lumps of wood (easily available via the backdoor) from the nearby forest. The little stable became a bathroom with a bath, toilet and sink, also richly decorated with a big mosaic of a beach, a lighthouse and a cloudy sky! Upstairs we rebuilt the hayloft into a big bedroom with 3 beds (2 doubles, 1 single). On the southeast side of the house we have a lovely little terrace, partially covered by an old-fashioned sunblind that gives you the recipe for the best salad dressing: oil, vinegar and mustard! Yes, the words are not in French but in Dutch: olie, azijn, mosterd. That’s because we’re both Dutch! We found the sunblind in Amsterdam where our children live. We bought our house in Loison more than 20 years ago as a cottage for holidays, but little by little it became our real home. We were even married in Loison by our next-door neighbor who, at that time, was the mayor. We rebuilt the big barns we acquired (and which are adjacent to the little guesthouse) into a studio and workshop for making mosaics and furniture. There is a little lake (actually a large fish pond) near to (1 km) the village .This is a wonderful place to swim/fish during our hot summers and to (ice)skate on in wintertime. Access can be discussed on arrival. We are generally at home so we are here to help with anything you need. We speak French, English, German and Dutch. Loison is a small rural French village located in northeastern France. We are ideally positioned for the Verdun battlefields, Belgium attractions like Orval abbey, and the beautiful country/city of Luxembourg and the beautiful city of Metz. Loison and its surroundings are great for walking and cycling. Another thing that makes this part of France really special to visit are the migratory birds. Most notably cranes choose this area and gather in large numbers to rest and forage on their journeys to and from the Arctic and Africa. Migration northwards starts roughly around the end of February. Migration to the south is less predicable and can, depending on the weather, start from late October until early December. Near Loison you can visit a very odd WWI relic: hidden in the nearby forest of Loison a German engineer (and military captain) built a complete tiny little village of bunkers in order to try out different manufacturing methods. Nowadays it’s a strangely charming spot, because nature took its course and partly covered the place up …… One of the largest canons of WWI, the ‘Lange Max’ (Long Max), is also on display nearby. Incredible what they could make a hundred years ago and how horrible to imagine that is was actually used… Luxembourg (60km) is the nearest airport, Longuyon (18km) is the nearest train station, Verdun(31 km) TGV Meuse(58 km). To fully appreciate the area a car or bike is necessary.
