Welcome to your “home away from home” - 5 min walk from the Witney town centre and an ideal base for exploring the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and Oxfordshire. This property was built by my great grandfather and is now managed by the third generation of the same family. Witney Hideaway has been professionally renovated/decorated to a very high standard combining the charm of old world antiques with modern conveniences. Perfect for time away and self-catering vacations. Guests have their own private entrance (the blue door) to this charming ground floor flat and there is a secure lock box. There is space to park one small car in the drive directly outside the flat. The former dining room with original decorative fireplace is now a warm and cosy bedroom perfect for a relaxing break. The bedroom has one double bed, wardrobe, dresser with drawers, antique mirrors, hooks for hanging clothes, two luggage racks, bedside lights and USB ports on both sides of the bed. The modern kitchen has a double farmhouse sink, designer tap with water sprayer, quartz countertops, hobb/stove top, oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge and freezer and smaller appliances such as kettle and toaster to make your cooking experience delightful. In the kitchen there is a selection of basic dry ingredients and spices which the guests may use. There is also a washing machine, clothes dryer, iron, ironing board and foldable clothes drying rack in the kitchen for those who stay longer. The bathroom includes a walk-in shower, toilet, sink with modern waterfall tap, heated towel rail and it’s fully equipped with towels, hair dryer, toilet paper, hand soap and some basic personal items. The main living/dining area has a wall-mounted smart TV, two antique desks, sofa which converts into a double bed and plenty of storage space and sitting room. There is a dining table and the seats in the dining area serve as storage for linens for the sofa bed. Near the front door there is a coat hook and large ottoman for storing umbrellas, shoes, etc. The flat is equipped with high speed Internet, USB ports throughout, HDMI cable, ethernet cable, practical space for working, basic office supplies, first aid kit, sewing kit, selection of family games, insulated picnic bag plus other practical items. Guests have use of a shared back garden space. The entire Witney Hideaway is yours to use during your visit. This cosy ground floor flat is attached to the main house which is occupied by tenants. Back Garden: The back garden is a shared space between the tenants in the main house and the guests in the Witney Hideaway. Kids are most welcome to run around the garden! If the tenants are eating outside please respect their privacy. In Spring 2022, we’ll be creating a separate outdoors eating space for our guests but covid has delayed these plans. Stay tuned! Parking: Important Information to note before your visit. The width of drive: The Witney Hideaway is located in an historical part of town and, therefore, roads and drives tend to be narrow. For guests, there is space to park one car on the drive and it is best suited for smaller cars. Please pull your car up as close as possible to the blue door. We recently had a Tesla parked in the drive which you can see in our photos to give you a sense of perspective. The drive is shared: The tenants in the main house also park their car on the drive (parallel to front window). This means there may be another car in the drive when you arrive so you would need to manoeuvre into the drive carefully. If there are any issues with parking, please knock on the white door and talk with the tenants. They are very friendly and eager to help! How to enter the drive: If you are entering from Corn Street, often it's easier to drive past the Witney Hideaway, turn around at the next intersection then enter the drive from the opposite direction. We have recently removed a portion of our stone wall and made a small concrete slope to make entry to the drive easier. Accessibility to the drive: Sometimes people park on the street immediately behind our drive which makes it tricky to pull in and out of the drive. We’ve lobbied the local council for years to put double-lines on this section of the road immediately behind our drive but no success so far, unfortunately. Lots of free street parking: There is free street parking on local streets (around 50 meter walk from front door) especially on Saxon Way which is the first street on the right after you pass the Witney Hideaway. Please avoid those double lines and use the normal precautions when parking on public streets. To compliment your stay, we provide a Welcome Gift Basket with a few edible items in case you arrive late and have not yet had time to go grocery shopping. We are available through the Airbnb website or App at any time to ensure that your stay is as enjoyable as possible. If you have questions please feel free to ask. Nearby sites include: Cogges Manor Farm where "Downton Abbey" was filmed. Cogges is a 17th century farmstead with a beautiful manor house, stunning walled garden and friendly animal residents, and includes a cafe where people of all ages can relax, learn and have fun. Blenheim Palace, a World Heritage Site with over 300 years of history and birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill, is a world class visitor attraction which hosts a variety of cultural and sporting events. Be sure to check their calendar to see what may be happening during your stay. The city of Oxford revolves around its prestigious university which consists of 38 colleges in the city’s medieval center. This “City of Dreaming Spires” is ideally located on the River Cherwell where you can try your hand at steering a punt (a narrow, low bottom boat propelled with a long pole). Don’t forget to stop by Bicester Village, an outlet shopping center with luxury goods and designer clothing stores. Witney is located 12.8 miles west of Oxford. From either Heathrow or Gatwick airports you can take a bus direct to Oxford then at the Gloucester Green bus terminal transfer to the Witney S1 Stagecoach bus. Or you can rent a car from the airport and drive direct to Witney. There are also daily buses which travel direct from London to Oxford on a regular schedule. The Witney Visitor Information Center is the first place to gather information on local sites, activities and transportation options. Getting around the Cotswold area is certainly easier by car but there are many other options such as private taxis, trains, coaches and guided tours. The Cotswolds Discoverer One Day Pass is the perfect and hassle-free way to travel around and explore some of the most scenic parts of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty by bus and by train. Bus service from Witney into Oxford is every 15 minutes (look for S1 Stagecoach) and there are stops on Corn Street and High Street. At the Oxford Gloucester Green bus terminal you can easily transfer to buses to London, Heathrow and Gatwick airports. There is also train service from Long Hanborough/Oxford into London and many other points within UK.
