Eider Cottage is a well equipped and cosy 3 bedroom cottage, with smart tv and unlimited internet, washing machine, travel cot - bring own baby bedding, fridge and freezer. For the coffee lover there is a cafetière and a new Delongi coffee machine. We have a portable BBQ to use in the back courtyard or to take out. There are harbour views from the bedroom windows, and the Little Shore beach is only metres away. The cottage is close to shops, pubs, restaurants and the Harbour Village. Guests have the exclusive use of a 3 bedroom traditional stone cottage. Parking is on the street and is usually plentiful. To the rear of the cottage is small traditional yard with tables and chairs and pot plants. The yard bolts from the inside, making it secure and suitable for storing bikes. There is unlimited broadband internet and a new smart tv and DVD player with a selection of DVDs, and a DAB digital radio. There is a well stocked small supermarket just a few metres down the road and some excellent places to eat on the Harbour. We also have a travel cot available. There is a traditional cafetière. The Little Shore beach, which is very safe for children, is only a few metres away. There is a key box, but we live close by and are available if guests need assistance. We like to give our guests space - but we are on hand as needed! Northumberland is famed for its wide open beaches, castles and stunning scenery. Amble is a brilliant place to explore the coastline. There are some excellent restaurants in Amble, especially if you like locally caught seafood. There are plenty of pubs in Amble - highlights would be the Harbour which is close to the cottage, the Wellwood, at the top of the village which serves food and the friendly Mason's Arms, Albert Street which serves real ale from an Amble micro brewery and has an excellent quiz on Thursday evenings (you can join our table, if you like - please!!!). In the puffin season (spring and early summer) there are trips around Coquet Island to see puffins and the endangered roseate tern. Inland, there are miles of northern Pennines and Cheviot Hills to explore with wide open spaces and very few other people! The famous Hadrian's Wall is a short drive away and it is very rewarding to walk a stretch and explore a Roman Fort, or two. Further north up the coast is the incomparable Lindisfarne (Holy Island) which is reached by a tidal causeway and is an important Christian site, dating back to the 6th century. There is a monastery founded by St Aidan which is well worth a visit. The castle there is a delight - converted into a holiday home over a hundred years ago by Edwin Lutyens, complete with a walled garden by Gertrude Jekyll. There is a good bus service to Alnwick, Morpeth and Newcastle and a handy train station only a few miles away in Alnmouth giving access to Edinburgh, Glasgow, London and York. We imagine most people will come by car, but a car is not essential and we would be happy to pick up guests from Alnmouth station for free, by prior arrangement. The house is dog friendly (2 well behaved dogs). We request that dogs stay downstairs and not go on the furniture, please. We offer a minimum stay of 4 days.
