Secure storage is available for any additional equipment you may have. L'Ancienne Gendarmerie dates back to the 18th Century and continued in use until it closed in 1959. It retains many of the original features which surrounds our tranquil and picturesque courtyard where breakfast may be eaten, as well as relaxing in the Normandie sunshine. Perwinkle is situated on the ground floor, adjacent to the entrance. Opposite your room is the Breakfast Room, where breakfast is available at an additional €5. The Gendarmerie is located in the working agricultural village of La Foret Auvray, where the Santiago de Compostella Pilgrimage Route passes right outside our front door. We are situated on the edge of Suisse Normandie overlooking the valley of the River Orne, which makes it an ideal base for outdoor activities including cycling, hiking, fishing, rock climbing or horse riding, which are all available nearby. Alternatively, if outdoor activities are not for you this is an ideal base to relax and wind down. We are ideally situated to visit the nearby tourist attractions of Chateau de Guillaume le Conquerant at Falaise (William the Conqueror's Castle), La Roche D'Oetre (one of the highest and rockiest outcrops in the whole of Normandy), Lac de Rabondanges (a man-made lake created by EDF in the 1960s) or many of the surrounding historic towns and villages. Further afield other notable tourist attractions include the Normandie Beaches, Mont St Michel and Le Mans amongst many others. The nearest train station is in Briouze, 15 minutes drive away. Parking is available on either side of the property.
