The Cottage at Walshaw can be found high above the fairytale wooded valley of Hardcastle Crags, a popular destination for walkers. It boasts stunning views over the windswept moors of the Pennines. 250 years old, the cottage has been lovingly renovated to create a unique and welcoming property, perfect for groups or families. The cosy living area and dining room share a unique double sided wood-burner, and there is under-floor heating throughout. The beautiful private garden is also included. The ground floor has a contemporary open plan layout. The newly-built kitchen opens to a breakfast bar, and there is a large 6-person dining table in the adjacent area. Upstairs the cottage has two large double bedrooms, a large twin room, as well as laundry facilities, and a bathroom. The bedrooms all come with plenty of storage, and wonderful views. The large bathroom boasts a huge walk-in shower, a separate bath tub, and two basins. We are available via email and telephone in case you need us. The cottage forms part of a small hamlet of homes and farms. It sits atop Hardcastle Crags, offering some of Yorkshire's most popular walking routes. Gibson Mill is a flagship National Trust sustainability project, and makes a great destination down the Crags. If you go up you can follow the Pennine Way over the moors to Top Withens, the setting of Emily Bronte's celebrated novel Wuthering Heights. From Haworth, home of the Bronte sisters, to Hebden Bridge, the 'coolest town in the north', to Heptonstall - former home of Ted Hughes and Sylvia Plath, there is much to explore locally. Poet Laureate Ted Hughes was born in Mytholmroyd and lived in Heptonstall, and his wife Sylvia Plath is buried in the churchyard in Heptonstall. Many visitors flock to the town on a pilgrimage to visit the couple’s former house and Sylvia Plath’s grave, to commemorate the important work that the duo produced. Halifax has a thriving arts and cultural scene; Saltaire is a short drive further, with a collection of artworks by local boy, David Hockney. Despite its blissfully remote setting, the cottage is within an hour’s drive of both Leeds and Manchester. The new Hepworth Gallery in Wakefield, and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park nearby have works by Hepworth, Henry Moore and others. In order to find the property using (Hidden by Airbnb) Maps, please search for "Walshaw Lodge". This is important as the postcode is now taking people to a locked gate via (Hidden by Airbnb) . You’ll need a car to reach us, we’re around 15 minutes from Hebden Bridge. Take Keighley Road up the hill towards Keighley from Hebden Bridge. Turn half left at the sign for "Hardcastle Crags / Midgehole - no through road". Stay on this road until you come to the National Trust gate, bearing the sign "Authorised vehicles only". Continue through the gate and straight up the hill through the woods. You will come to Gibson Mill on the left. You are half way there. Keep going and you will arrive at Walshaw. You can’t miss it. Walshaw Cottage, Walshaw Farm and Walshaw Lodge are all right there. The road is not paved. However, the majority of people who use it do not drive 4x4s. You will need to limit your speed to a maximum of 20mph and often less. The cottage is a two mile drive from Hebden Bridge. Its seclusion does form part of its charm. Please note this is a no smoking and no drugs property. You may smoke in the courtyard outside if you use an ashtray and dispose of the buts. If you infringe these rules, you will be asked to leave. There is now a TV and a computer in the cottage. Mobiles do not work at Walshaw but the internet works perfectly so (Hidden by Airbnb) calls are the way to telephone friends. The new private garden has been professionally landscaped and enjoys a wonderful secluded position and outdoor seating. There is a double garage for exclusive use of guests.
