Showman’s Wagon
This original 1940s Showman’s Wagon has been lovingly restored to it’s former glory. It has a cast iron cooking stove inside, which is for authentic decorative purposes only, not to be used for cooking! Electric points have been added and solar panels for lighting. Essentially, this is for those who enjoy outdoor living with a bit of luxury thrown in. You can park one or two cars to one side of the wagon. Inside the wagon there is a curtained area for the main bedroom with a double/twin beds. The kitchen area in the middle has a dresser with all your cutlery, crockery and cooking utensil needs plus a drop leaf table with four folding chairs underneath. The other curtained area has a daybed with a trundle underneath which can be made up as twin beds if required. A travel cot is available if booked in advance. The area in front of the wagon is for your sole use. A recent edition is an undercover outdoor kitchen with a four burner barbecue and side burner. The cupboard and shelves provide all you need for outdoor cooking whatever the weather. There are seats and a fire pit under the apple trees. The green pavilion is just around the corner and comprises of a kitchen area, shower and toilet. Plus a sitting room should the weather not allow for sitting out in the garden. The tennis court is shared with the house guests. The orchard garden is solely for the guests staying in the wagon. The garden in front of the green pavilion and the tennis court may be shared with the farmhouse guests. Children and young at heart adults can access the wild walnut orchard complete with Wendy house and pallets for den making. This is at your own risk and wild, does mean wild with nettles and thistles! There are new guests in the chicken coop, two Suffolk lights. Feel free to collect the eggs if they have laid any!! I live next to the farmhouse so am available should you need any help. You will be given my mobile number on arrival and you may well see me using the shared space in front of the green pavilion and tennis court. Combs is a small village with no facilities of its own. Combs Ford is a mile away with a supermarket, shops, doctor’s surgery, pubs, fish and chip shop and petrol station. A mile in the other direction takes you to the village of Battisford where there is a lovely village pub that sells good locally produced food and will provide a takeaway service if needs be. There is also evening and weekend entertainment on certain dates. Stowmarket is a small town 1.5 miles away, it has all the usual shops that you may need plus a few individual ones. The museum of East Anglian Life is in the centre of Stowmarket and well worth a visit. There is also a leisure centre with swimming pool and a soft play area for young children. Stowmarket railway station runs trains to London Liverpool Street, Norwich and Peterborough regularly throughout the day. The east coast is easily accessible with Felixstowe being the nearest town, but the renowned destinations of Southwold and Aldeburgh are just an hour away. Bury St Edmunds is a beautiful historic town and has plenty to offer for a day out. The county town of Ipswich has the newly developed waterfront with a selection of good restaurants. A car is probably the best way of travelling to and from the farmhouse garden. However, if you are a cyclist that is a good way to get around and take in the beautiful countryside.
