Not only are you in the heart of Ste Mere Eglise where there are world renown museums, highly rated restaurants, everything is within walking fancy cooking after a day out, just cross to the many restaurants or you could always have a BBQ in the courtyard at the back of the cottage. 2 double beds and a twin this cottage sleeps 6 with a well appointed family bathroom, perfect for 2 couples travelling together or a small family. Down stairs the open plan room incorporates the kitchen, dining table and 2 big sofas with a opens out onto the courtyard so there is enough room for folk to spread out if they wish, someone flops in front of the TV while others have time in the courtyard. Ste Mere Eglise being the 1st town liberated on 6th June 1944 with the huge parachute drop by the American 82nd Airborne otherwise known as AA - All Americans, while the 101st known as the Screaming Eagles were landing all around the area, Utah Beach being just a few kilometres away with the invasion on the beach there. Today in Ste Mere Eglise this incredible event is depicted with an effigy parachutist caught up in the Church Tower, a true story depicted in The Longest Day played by Red Buttons. The very informative and imaginative Parachutist memorial museum is just opposite the this round the corner from the cottage. Ste Mere Eglise is 45 minutes from the other invasion beaches, with Pegasus Bridge being the furthest away. But do are not all war here!! The area is in The Park Naturel Cotentin & Bessin an area of outstanding beauty, wonderful coastal scenery and beaches, fishing ports where you can buy fresh fish direct from the trawlers, towns and villages, chateaux, churches, Abbeys and Cathedrals la Manche has something for everyone. Being on a peninsula we're almost an upside down version of Cornwall in the UK, sandy beaches that go for miles, cliffs and rigged coves - it's all here! Enjoy walking? is the Smugglers Walk which starts out at Granville right round the head of Cherbourg down to Carentan, this was the route taken by custom officers looking for there are the 'voie vertes' which are the old railway lines converted into glorious tracks for walkers and cyclists, it is possible to go all the way from Cherbourg down to Marseille in the South of France. It's possible to visit the cheese how the world famous Reo, Elle de Vire Camemberts, butters etc are made, a toffee factory in Carentan & Isigny sur Mer where you can buy toffees from the outlet shops, Cider & Calvados factories where you see the production buy the finished result! Bayeux with the world famous tapestry and Abbey's 35 minutes away, Mont St Michel just over an hour's car journey. So, by the time you've explored the Invasion Beaches, Bayeux, Mont St Michel, hit the beaches, visited a few restaurants and foodie places you'll be ready to stay another week... there is just so much to see and do here !
