The Nuthatch Shepherd Hut at Ketteringham Hall
The Nuthatch is our very own Poachers Hut, crafted here in Norfolk by the English Shepherds Hut Company. It is a snug and cosy hut with a kingsized bed, wood burning stove and ensuite bathroom plus a small kitchenette, making it ideal in all weather. It is nestled in the woods of the magnificent grounds of Ketteringham Hall, bringing you close to nature. You will also be a very close walk from the Orangery Tearoom that serves delicious snacks, lunches, cakes and cream teas. You will experience a luxury break in a warm and cosy Shepherds Hut, complete with a wood burning stove and ensuite bathroom. This hut is situated nearby its counterpart, the Peacock Hut, but will feel secluded and private. The hut has Wifi, but provides a welcome break from television by not having one! The kitchenette is stocked with tea, coffee, sugar and breakfast supplies, with fresh milk in the fridge. There is also bedding, towels and essential toiletries provided. With its wriggly tin roof and cladding, cast iron wheels and cosy double bed. Within your hut, you'll be able to look out into the woods and enjoy a night of complete tranquility, but during the day you are situated in an incredible location with a rich history. Ketteringham Hall was the headquarters of the 2nd Air Division of the 8th United States Army Air Force during World WarII and the woods were where the airmen's Nissen huts were situated. They are under the command of Jimmy Stewart, the famous Hollywood star and Walter Matthau was also based there. The main Estate dates back to before William the Conqueror and the Hall was once the childhood home of Lady Jane Grey, England's shortest reigning monarch and younger sister to Henry VIII. Sir John Boileau was responsible for the Hall as it stands today, until it was sold to the Duke of Westminster in 1948. For a few years the Hall became a preparatory boarding school and in 1970 it was bought by Colin Chapman of Lotus Cars as a base for the Lotus Formula One team. The rooms at the Hall are now let as offices and the grounds are available as an ideal wedding venue. You can roam wherever you want in the grounds even in places marked private. The only restriction is the walled garden which is used by one of the tenants at the Hall for gardening classes. You will be left in peace to enjoy your shepherd hut and this wonderful estate, but if needed we are only a phone call away. Ketteringham is 4 miles from the vibrant City of Norwich. Home of the Canaries football team, a magnificent Cathedral where Norwich School is located and where Lord Nelson once attended. There is an excellent Theatre, several cinemas, two large indoor shopping centres and numerous top quality restaurants. Even closer is the market town of Wymondham with its magnficent Abbey and many unique independent shops. The Sainsbury Centre for the Arts is nearby in the grounds of the University. The Norfolk Broads and the beautiful North Norfolk coast are within easy reach. Cars are safely accommodated in the Hall car park and there is road access to the Huts for unloading. However, there is no public transport at the Hall. The other Shepherds hut is sited nearby, but with all doors and windows facing the other way so you should be unaware of one another's presence, unless you've specifically come together! You are welcome to enjoy the grounds Ketteringham Hall, also parts of the hall itself are rented as office space by businesses and will be off limits- this will be signposted!
