Cozy queen bed and private bath near Northwestern
Beautifully appointed bedroom in grand old home near the Northwestern campus. Very comfortable queen bed, private balcony, and pull-out work space. Private full bath. Free parking all around the neighborhood. The "L" train is a block and a half away, with 2 Metra stops, each about 4 blocks away. Just a snippet about Evanston: (Website hidden by Airbnb) This beautiful home was built in (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) but enjoys all the modern comforts. Everything you could possibly want or need is within a matter of no more than four short blocks by foot. A lakefront bike and walking path running north and south from Dempster, where it dead-ends at Lake Michigan, is a lovely way to start the day. I have installed the August “smart lock” system which, through the app, will provide you with bluetooth access for opening the back door for the duration of your stay at my home. If that technology freaks you out or can't be loaded onto your smart phone, feel free to ask me for a numeric code that will be unique to you and available for your use on a keypad by the back door during the duration of your stay. If I happen to be home when you arrive, I will be glad to show you to your home-away-from-home on the second floor. Otherwise, look for the door with the Tulane keychain at the top of the stairs off the kitchen. You are free to use the kitchen 'fridge to store your leftovers (or to heat them up in the microwave), or to make tea. There are numerous tea options available and hot water ready to go. I will have fresh coffee ready for you in the morning by around 7:30. If you need it earlier, just let me know! Help yourself to any cream or nut milks in the 'fridge or to a sweetener of your choice. I work full-time, often out of my home office, but sometimes am out in court or at meetings. When I am at home, I am available to answer your questions and give suggestions, and can always be reached by phone or text. I am here for as much or as little interaction as you would like or need. I love entertaining and hosting people in my home. I have a very friendly, hypo-allergenic rescue dog - a five-year-old Schnautzu (a cross between a standard Schnauzer and a Shih Tzu). "Bertie Botts" will be locked up in my room when I am not home. The house is in a happening urban area just off one of Evanston's main drags, Dempster Street. Dempster is a major east-west street. Head north up Maple, Sherman Avenue, Sherman Place or Chicago to Grove, Davis and Church and find yourself in the heart of Evanston's thriving downtown area - in the middle of Northwestern country - with literally hundreds if not thousands of restaurants, shops, coffee houses, bakeries, boutiques, gift shops, and the like. You are in the middle of everything here! Head south to Main Street and enjoy an eclectic assortment of establishments, including Dave's Rock Shop, the Squeeze Box book and record store, restaurants, coffee shops, a spectacular fabric store, consignment clothing stores (on the west side of Chicago, just north of Main). Check out any number of area establishments, including Hewn Bakery (a tenth of a mile away, open every day except Monday, just to the east of the corner of Elmwood and Chicago), SPACE music venue (two tenths of a mile away, on Chicago and Dempster), Tapas Barcelona on Chicago, Found on Chicago, That Little Mexican Cafe on Church, Bat 17 for killer burgers, Blind Faith Cafe (well-known vegetarian restaurant on Dempster, east of Chicago), Lucky Platter (Main Street) . . . the possibilities are endless, and all walkable. I’m getting hungry just thinking about the options! You are a block and a half from the "L" (the purple line of the elevated train line; switch to the red line at Howard during non-rush-hour times) and equi-distant (about five blocks in either direction) to either the Davis or Main Street Metra stations (suburban commuter rail). The Metra will get you downtown within about half an hour and will cost about $5.00 in each direction (if you buy your ticket in the station, that is; there is a steep surcharge if you buy your ticket aboard the train, unless the station’s ticket counter was not open). The L is cheaper and runs more frequently, but takes longer and can have a higher quotient of dubious sorts; switch from the Purple line to the Red line at the Howard Station if commuting downtown during non-rush hour times. During rush hour, the Purple Line runs pretty much as an express train into the heart of the Loop/downtown and back again. Cozy and quiet, this private bedroom provides you both comfort and ready access to Northwestern University, as well as to the Metra and "L” for ease of travel to downtown Chicago and magnificent Evanston!
