LA HUPPE Normandy/Loire barn

Our Barn was fully renovated in 2020/21 offering 2x 60m2 Gites each on two levels. L’HIRONDELLE and LA HUPPE. We have created modern accommodation but kept the character of the barn with its original oak beams and stone. Located on the Normandy/Loire border in a rural location offering couples a quiet escape to the countryside. Self catered, but your choice of our breakfast option. Centrally based for guests to visit the many medieval towns, markets, walks and attractions within the region. Ground floor has under floor heating and consists of comfortable arm chairs in front of the woodburner/TV (French and UK) Dining table (seats 4) and a fitted kitchen with dish washer, fridge, gas hob and electric cooker. Kitchen area also has a coffee machine, kettle and toaster. Upstairs the bedroom also has under floor heating with the bathroom en-suite. The bedroom has a vaulted ceiling with the original oak beams. A Super King size bed (choice of summer or winter tog duvets) which can be split should guests prefer twin beds. For your added luxury large bath sheets and bath robes are supplied. Each gites is fully modernised but keeping the original character and features of the 150 year old barn. Free WiFi is available and USB charge points are positioned in the kitchen and on each side of the bed. Outside, guests have a terrace area to have breakfast or to enjoy the sunshine with a drink. A grassed garden area is also available with a barbecue should guests wish to use. In winter a basket of wood logs is supplied for your first night. Further baskets of logs are available at minimal cost. Guests have full use of their gite, terrace and their garden area. My wife Helen, and I live opposite the barn and are available to provide guests with any information they might require. An optional breakfast basket can be delivered to your gite if you choose to have our breakfast option. From 7.50€ per person Breakfast is either continental or cooked to order. Using our breakfast card, listing a variety of choices that can be ordered the night before and brought to you the next morning at the time you choose. This may appeal if you wish fresh bread and croissants from the boulangerie without having to make the trip into town yourself. For those guests arriving late in the evening we can also offer a light evening meal so you don't go to bed hungry. If arriving late, please let us know and we can text you a supper option to you. Any extras ordered can be paid for by card/cash/cheque before departure. Being very rural the location is very quiet with only the sounds of nature. There are numerous countryside walks and safe cycle routes. We are only to happy to recommend a selection of local restaurants and attractions to visit that we have discovered. Gorron our local market town has all the amenities you should need including a Supermarket, Boulangeries, pharmacy, shops, bars, restaurants and a small market Wednesday mornings. To those who like wildlife, we at times get deer in the garden and at night you can hear the barn owls calling out. In spring the House Martin’s, Swallows and pairs of Hoopoe (La Huppe) arrive to nest. On a cloudless night and due to minimal light pollution we get an incredible views of the stars at night. Due to our rural location a car or motorbike is essential, as there is no public transport. But from your base here we can also suggest routes for you to explore by bicycle. Helen is a keen walker and has numerous walking books which she can advise and help you with routes you would like to do. Our nearest airports are Dinard/Nantes and Rennes. The Train station at Laval links Paris by TGV. Choice of Ferry ports/Chunnel from the U.K. Approx. Driving times are Cherbourg 2hrs 15 - Caen 2hrs - Calais 4hrs 30mins We are dog friendly, but expect guests to be responsible and dogs should be on a lead especially if near any farm livestock grazing in the fields.
