The Foxy Shepherd - an idyllic country retreat
The hut is in a secluded fenced off part of our garden in a designated area of outstanding natural beauty with uninterrupted views over paddocks towards Benenden and provides the perfect retreat for couples looking for a place for complete relaxation and escape from daily life. It is completely self contained with an ensuite shower room, kitchen area, wood burning stove and cosy double bed. Outside is a fire pit with BBQ where you can enjoy the long summer evenings with a glass of wine and BBQ The hut sleeps two in one double bed and offers everything anyone could want for a short break. It has been built by ourselves, fully insulated and decorated to an exceptionally high standard with beautiful flooring and bathroom tiles, full length wool curtains and blinds and a wonderfully comfy double bed with memory foam mattress. There is a small kitchen area inside the hut with a small sink, hot and cold taps, induction hob for cooking when it is too warm to light the fire and dresser for plates, bowls and cups and saucers. This is no ordinary shepherds hut! Is has a most wonderful Hobbit stove wood burner which can be used cook or keep the hut cosily warm on chilly nights. The en-suite shower-room has a full-sized shower, heated towel rail, basin and toilet. The many vineyards, gardens, castles and proximity of the Kent and East Sussex coast provide plenty to do and see in this spectacular part of the Garden of England. The local area boasts some of the most famous gardens in the world. Sissinghurst Castle, Great Dixter, Scotney Castle, Batemans and Pashley Manor Gardens to name but a few. Bodiam Castle is a stones throw away and is served by The East Sussex & Romney Marsh Steam Train. There are loads of excellent Gastro pubs, Michelin stared restaurants and friendly eateries in the area. We will welcome you to the Foxy Shepherd when you arrive. There is a folder in The Shepherds Hut full of local information and where to eat etc. but we'll be around most of the time so you can ask any questions you may have. We are surrounded by National Trust properties, Sissinghurst Castle, Scotney Castle, Bodiam Castle & Batemans. We also have lots of local gardens nearby that are open to the public Great Dixter, Hole Park, Pashley Manor & Merriments. Bedgebury and National Pinetum are also close by. The Foxy Shepherd is on Foxhole Lane, a rural lane between Hawkhurst and Sandhurst but you can still get here by public transport. The nearest stations are Etchingham ( 5 miles away) London to Hastings line, then taxi to Field Green Oast or Staplehurst, (10 miles away) London to Dover Priory or Ramsgate line, then no 5 bus Arriva which stops at the junction of A268 and Sponden Lane about 150 metres from our gate. Once you alight the bus walk along Sponden Lane to the red post box then turn left into Foxhole Lane and our drive way is the first on the right hand side.
