Converted hay barn on the edge of Swiss Normandy
Nestled in a stunning valley on the edge of Swiss Normandy, Eco-Gites of Lenault is a haven of tranquilly where Rosie and Simon look forward to meeting you on your Normandy adventure. Relax in peace, surrounded by countryside and wildlife or head out and explore all Normandy has to offer - the choice is yours. An ideal stay for nature lovers, birdwatchers, photographers, hikers. With 3 bedrooms (sleeps 5) this is a popular choice with families, groups of friends and couples. Eco-Gites of Lenault is a spacious 3 bedroom gite, sleeping 5, situated in the beautiful Calvados countryside just an hour south of Caen ferry port and on the edge of Swiss Normandy (Department of Normandy). It has been equipped to a high standard and makes a great base for all adult groups or families travelling with children. Downstairs is open plan over 2 levels, separated by a balustrade which succeeds in being both spacious and cosy. On the upper level is a large well-equipped kitchen which includes a dishwasher, microwave and cooker as well as plenty of storage space for bags, coats and shoes. 3 steps lead down to the large dining room and lounge area and the wood burner as a focal feature. Upstairs is the master bedroom with double bed and the twin bedroom with 2 full sized twin beds. A second staircase takes you to the mezzanine with a full sized single bed. The mezzanine room also acts as a play room with toys, games and books supplied. This room does not have a door and we do not recommend that children under 5 sleep here. We do however provide a stair gate. All bedrooms have room to take a travel cot which we can supply. The bathroom is also upstairs where there is a large shower, toilet, basin and washing machine. We wish to make your stay here as pleasant and relaxing as possible so we supply or offer all of the following: * A welcome box including local cider and local biscuits * A comprehensive tourist pack * For travellers with young children we supply much of the kit you might need - cot, high chairs, booster seat, potty, changing mat, toys, plastic cutlery and crockery, bed-guard, fire-guard, stair gates, night light etc. Outside is your own terraced garden with table and chairs, large sun umbrella and BBQ. SIn loungers are also available. A few metres away is the large play area, a play barn, a boules pitch. Visitors of all ages have the chance to meet our animals. The gite, a restored hay barn, has been created using reclaimed, reused and eco-friendly materials & furnishings. It is insulated to a very high level and with the efficient wood-burner warming the whole building, it is also great for cosy (and romantic!) out of peak season stays. Guests have exclusive use of the gite and their own private garden with garden furniture, sun umbrella and BBQ. There is a large play area for children that includes wooden play equipment, a netted trampoline, hard standing and grass areas and a play barn. Guests have access to our animals (conditions apply) but certain working areas are off limits to guests. We are in a quiet location and your only neighbours are us (and the farm animals!). We live next door to the gite and are here to greet guests. We are also able to help guests with information about what to do locally. At certain times children (and adults) can help collect eggs and meet/feed the animals. Situated in rural Normandy on the edge of the Swiss Normandy region we are a rural retreat of peace and calm. However around and about there is simply so much to do that many of our guests have returned (some up to 5 times). Popular destinations all within easy reach include Mont St Michel, Bayeux with the Tapestry, Falaise Castle, the birthplace of William the Conqueror, the city of Caen, Jurques Zoo, Honfleur, Deauville, FestyLand Theme Park and the D-Day Landing beaches (which are wonderfully family friendly). There are markets in local towns on every day. Other attractions close-by include 2 velo-railways, many art galleries and museums, swimming pools and soft play areas. There are also a wide range of events, concerts and exhibitions throughout the year. For thrill seekers all the following are available locally - bungy jumping, zip wires, cliff-side walks, tree top trails, kayaking, dry toboggan runs (luge) and paragliding. Are you brave enough to give these a go? An extensive network of footpaths starts right from our back gate so you can explore and enjoy the local countryside on foot or bike. There are 2 riding stables locally. Mind you, if you have children you may have difficulty getting them to leave the play area - the most common thing we hear is "Do we have to go? We are having so much fun here!" Public transport is limited and a car is recommended. We have on site parking for a car (please let us know if bring more than one car or a trailer so we can ensure space is available) and we have a barn where you can store bicycles, motorbikes and/or your roof rack. During certain peak season dates we only take full week bookings from Saturday to Saturday. At other times we are happy to take short bookings and can be more flexible with dates. We may also be flexible on price - please ask. Our local tourist board levies a tourist tax (Taxe de Séjour) on guests staying in the region. The rate is 60c per adult per night, payable in cash on arrival. Children under 18 are exempt. The money is used to help improve tourism in the region. We provide WiFi free of charge in the gite on the understanding that supply of WiFi is not under our control and we cannot be held responsible if the service is slow, limited or unavailable during your stay.
