Rugged coastline, ancient towns, lakes and forests beckon both holidaymakers, beach lovers and hikers alike to come closer and enjoy wonderful expanses of diverse countryside. From the inland lakes and forests located in the northern extremities of the Morbihan department to the sandy and craggy coves in the South with rocks that have been washed by the ocean over centuries look out towards the sea and offer some of the best views in Brittany. Little walkways take the adventurous to places from bygone years, through walkways that take you to little coves that have been there since time began and that keep their charm, created by nature rather than man. Morbihan has much to offer those who seek a balance of relaxation and activity. Keen golfers have a range of options available within easy reach- the 9 hole, Golf du Rimaison course is only 16km from the cottages. 18 hole courses can be found at Kernic, Ploermel and Auray, all less than an hour away. Excellent fishing can be found locally in the rivers Scorff, Blavet and Sarre. Those heading to the inland lakes can enjoy beaches and fishing too and a host of other attractions including, walking, swimming, cycling, kayaking, sailing and horse riding. The closest town to Fourdan is Guemene-Sur-Scorff where you can get provisions, take in the local sights/attractions and introduce yourself to French cuisine. The beaches of the south coast welcome the visitor who likes sandy beaches, which are safe, and at Auray, the port of St. Goustan offers you a small medieval fishing town with little street cafes that overlook the water. On a larger scale Vannes is also a port and here the winding streets take you back in time, whilst on an upbeat note, the shops are up to date and all the trappings of a large town within easy reach. For those wishing to recuperate from illness, the thalassotherapie centres of Quiberon offer patients relaxation in natural healing waters, which are renowned worldwide and have been proven to be beneficial. Morbihan offers a wealth of architectural marvels, and has wonderful churches; abbeys and you can step back in time and visit the Chateau at Josselin, or the old towns of Vannes, Rocheforte-en-Terre, La Gacilly, Quimper, Pontivy and many more. The historically inclined tourist will find themselves pulled back into the days of the megaliths, huge standing stones that tower above the earth along the coastline at Carnac, geologists can seek out the lay lines of this magical place. Food is wonderful, and a three course meal can be had for as little as 10 euros a head, although for families, there are a host of self service restaurants that offer children’s menus at very reasonable prices. All in all Morbihan has something for everyone, not just in the main summer period but throughout the year. From Easter to the end of October you can enjoy the beautiful countryside in pleasant weather. Yew is one of three newly renovated cottages (gites) with 2 bedrooms and sleeps up to 6 people.
