A recently renovated quirky Studio (sleeps 2) within the The Old Post Office, a Georgian stone built cottage in a quiet area tucked away on High Green in Gainford Village, 2 mins walk through the old Churchyard down to the River Tees. Popular with cyclists & walkers, the Market Towns of Barnard Castle & Darlington only 8 miles away, North Yorkshire Dales a 20 minute drive. Entrance accessible at all time via key safe. You will have this beautiful little Studio all to yourself, there are no shared facilities (apart from the entrance hall). There is a decent sized bedroom combined lounge area with an uber comfortable King size divan bed, 2 comfy chairs, a TV (Netflix and firestick channels only) there is an open archway leading into the kitchen/diner with a gas hob, electric oven, fridge/freezer/microwave/dishwasher/washing machine, tea and coffee making facilities. The shower/wet room/loo is accessed via the kitchen under the stairwell and it has underfloor heating. The rear garden is only for use by the owners but there is a front seating area overlooking the green for your morning coffees or evening cocktails. *There is another access available along a side alley should you be bringing a bike or a pet (1 small/medium size dog allowed for an extra £50 per stay for a deep clean) so that you can towel off your pooch before bringing him/her into the studio and leave your muddy boots in the log store area - please ask if you wish to use this option) Secure shed available for bike store (please ask) STRICTLY NO SMOKING. If we find that you have been smoking in the studio you will be charged £100 deep clean charge. There is free and ample parking space outside the front of the property. Taxi numbers are in your online guide and there is also a bus service in the centre of the green linking the nearest Market Towns of Barnard Castle and Darlington (you can nip on the bus to the local Fox Hole pub in Piercebridge and catch the last one back !) We allow 1 small / medium size dog in the studio on request for an extra £50 per stay to cover a deep clean, please read our house rules to check you are ok with them. I am always available for advice on local places to visit and things to do in the area - I will make contact with you prior to your stay Gainford Village dates back pre 801, the delightful village green has a village pub The Cross Keys, a village shop, a hair dressing salon, Gainford Academy Theatre and the Tees River walks can be accessed through the beautiful old churchyard. The Market Towns of Barnard Castle and Darlington are only 13 minute drive and the local Hotel and Spa, Headlam Hall is within walking distance (or a 5 minute drive). 'Internet Archive Wayback Machine' states... Most probably Gainford's first village inhabitants were Saxon and certainly the first written evidence of Gainford was produced by Simeon of Durham who tells us that Eda or Edwine, a Northumbrian chief who had exchanged a helmet for a cowl, died in 801 and was buried in the monastery at Gegenforda. Doubtless the village is older than this and the people would've known the area because of its two river crossing points called waths or fords, the Gainford waths and the Barforth wath. In Roman and pre Roman or Brigantian times, Gainford was on the A1M north to south heading towards the Brigantian camp at Stanwick, the ford and and ferry would've been of great importance. Taxi numbers can be found in our online guide., there is a local bus service from the village green linking you with the Market Towns of Barnard Castle and Darlington (as well as other local pubs in Piercebridge - why not hop on and catch the last bus back !) Please be aware that the owners live on the property and share the same entrance and the back garden is only for the owners use. If you decide to bring your well behaved pooch (1 small to medium size dog)we will need to know their name and their breed and there is an extra charge of £50 per stay for a deep clean to get the studio ready for our next Guest in case of allergies.
